Excellent Rogue Valley order
Comments (9)I was very happy with mine as well. I ordered bands, not big ones, but they were still a very nice size! :o) I got Smoky and Paul Barden's Dragon's Blood. I did the order before Mr Barden's new ones came out. I would for sure have gotten Umbra as well. I do have some nice purple Gallicas already, and actually I am leaning toward getting Marianne. I think that would look amazing next to my Cardinal de Richelieu! Does anybody know if RVR will ever carry any of the older Barden roses? There are a few I would really like to have....See MoreBaby Austin and Rogue Valley Roses
Comments (18)Kathy: We would love to. That's very gracious of you. We will by no means be on a tight schedule and It would be great to meet you and see your garden. I'll put a reminder on my calendar to email you a couple days before we take off. Thanks! Paul, it was your webpage I was reading about Little Pinkie on Saturday when I saw the reference to Baby Austin. I always enjoy looking for various roses on your site. Comments (16)My guess is that Burlington hers from Vintage. They do trade plants; I believe that most of the own root nurseries do cooperate with each other. She has a large collection of Geschwind ramblers; the only place that could have come from, I think, is from Cliff Orent's nursery. Heirloom and Vintage both got Cliff's roses, Rogue Valley got Ashdown's stock. Connie's roses came from many places, but at least in part from Vintage, I'm sure. It's not a war with each other. The guy that owns Petals of the Past in Birmingham told me that he gets his own root old roses from Chamblees, because he said that no one propagates as well as Chamblees does. The mystery red climber that Petals carries was given to them by Ruth Knopf who got it from Malcolm Manners. Ramblers that Vintage carries, some of them, anyway, came from a lady in Washington State, Anne Belovich. Who has donated rambler cuttings to that nursery in Spokane as well as the gardens in Chambersville, Texas. We all just need to do our part and not rag on one nursery or another but list our gardens, buy and grow what we can and like so many said on Kim's thread, share, learn to propagate and give roses away to our friends. Plant them someplace, propagate for our rose groups. Jeez, I hate it when I preach. You all know what I mean....See MoreRV mystery: Robin Hood, Verdi, or Robert's Wondrous Ruthie?
Comments (4)Hi folks Thanks for your collective problem solving so far! Paul, I appreciate the definitive word about RWR, and I'm looking forward to starting a thread of "I love Barden Roses" as soon as my plants get big enough to show the impressive blooms and hardiness they clearly have the potential to do. Your roses have at least 90% healthy survival in my yard, which tops even my favorite Delbard, Kordes, and Buck roses. Keep up the good work! As for the RV mystery, we're still not sure, but as KSGreenman and I have the same rose and I have 4 more of them, I'm inclined to think it's something they are marketing. I don't think they'd produce that many bands to distribute of something they're testing. Catsrose, the color in my photo is pretty true to what it looks like in my yard, that "red" i.e. hot pink edge with a high contrast center, so it's closest to how you describe your Robin Hood (thanks for the contrasting info on all 3). On HMF, there are variations of all these candidate roses so the RV site photo may not look exactly like our plants, but I'm still leaning toward Robin Hood unless I am convinced otherwise. Other opinions are welcome! Cynthia...See MoreUser
