Rooting a runner that has already been cut
Comments (1)I have rooted a lot of my strawberries from runners, and they are basically weeds, they will root quite easily. If yours have failed to root, I can think of a couple of things that may have happened..they might have dried out..you must keep them moist at all times, and placing some sort of humidity dome over the top of them(soda bottle or milk jug with the bottom cut off)will help. Another thing that may have happened is if you tried to root them in full sun..the sun will fry them..try rooting them in dappled shade, then transplanting them after they have rooted. It would help if you told us how you tried to root your last batch, then we can maybe help you more. Donna...See MoreIs everyone checking to see if a thread has already been started?
Comments (12)I was surfing through them today and noticed one member name that came up 3 different times...all spelled the exact same way. I think part of the problem might be with the 2 different search boxes. If one is told to do a search in the box found at the bottom of the page, they will get all posts for that member on ALL forums. Now as most of us veterans know, if one does a search in the search box found just below the list of 'threads' then the search can be narrowed to just searching the Rate and Review Forum. Possibly we should start a Suggestion (and crusade) to have to search box put up at the top of the page and it be just specifically for search results on the Review Forum. There is a search box at the top at the Pond Forum that will yield only the results for that forum. There is also one at the very bottom of the page which will yield posts for the whole site...very confusing. There was a suggestion about this b4 the Suggestion Box was emptied at the old Suggestion and 'comment' Forum. I agree...it is gonna be a real mess in time. Maybe it would help if when any of us see a second thread started for the same member, we post a link to the second one of them and maybe request that future posts be made to the thread that was started first....or you know what I mean...don't ya? I hesitate to do anything myself, as I don't want to appear as any more of a busy body than I already have...lol Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Ponds and Aquatic Plants Forum...See MoreHas anyone here and do you think I can??????
Comments (12)Yes, you can do it yourself. There are most likely places you can look for instructions on the internet to do it better than the way I did it, but my way worked just fine. I did it before I owned a computer. Good luck. I don't know if I did it correctly or not and it's been a few years ago so I hope I'm remembering correctly. First I measured exactly the size of sheetrock needed. When I cut it I think I left the paper or backing maybe a half of an inch larger than the hole. I took some strong thread, probably quilting thread, and used a needle to run a length of the thread through the sheetrock leaving about 12 inches of thread hanging from the front of the sheetrock. I did this in the middle and close to each corner. Make sure it is knotted on the back of the sheetrock. I pushed the sheetrock into the hole until the backing was in and the sheetrock was snug using the thread pieces to pull it toward me as needed. After that I cut the thread and caulked around the edge and sanded til smooth once the caulk was dry. It didn't take too long. After I painted over it I couldn't tell that a hole had ever been there. Comments (60)I suppose, if you have the money, sure, do all the parties up fine. Not the case with most couples, and I think it would be a shame for a couple or their family to go deep into debt just for that. Husband and I are going to have to save for a couple of years to recoup our losses, and our wedding was as informal and cheap as we could make it. One of the biggest splurges was three days in a cottage near Lake Michigan for our honeymoon and also a place where we could entertain guest with alcohol since our two wedding venues (church and park) were dry. I suppose we could have done without that, but it sure was a NICE three days. Now I'll be three years saving to recoup the losses. I know that seems extreme, but we are just barely getting by with my part-time and hubs retirement salaries. Cars, bodies and homes wear out and that takes big bucks to fix. We spent about 8K for two weddings. Other big splurges were real flowers and real musicians at our second wedding. And we went low ball on both compared to what we could have spent. I have to say, it was well worth it for both. Biggest expenses were travel and rents/accommodations. Mostly for us, since that's why we ended up with two weddings, to save travel for our families from two regions of the country....See Moresky1122
