What to do with a Bloodgood Japanese Maple that's only half leaves?

My Acer Palmatum Bloodgood had a rough year last year (a move, cold, soggy, repotted). I was looking forward to seeing it surge back this year. It did, sort of, but only half of it!

The leaves on the left side are big and beautiful and healthy looking, and the right side of the tree is without leaves. If you look at it another way, the leaves start to disappear the higher you go up.

I've attached some photos of the tree and some closeups of the high-up branches with no leaves. Is there anything to do but wait for next year, and hope that the whole tree surges back? Are these leaves likely to come still? Should I be pruning something, and how?

Zone 8b. It's sunny and 24ºC today. Container is 40cm tall by 43cm in diameter.
