Double Islands or a Single Island with a round table/chairs
Comments (35)We also have a two island kitchen and love it. We entertain frequently and all family get together's have been moved to our house since we built. It's nice to have an island that is dedicated to food prep and cooking, while the other island is dedicated to platters brought by guests, setting up a drink station, leaning on to talk to someone, walking around, etc. The kitchen is the heart of our home and we find that even when I'm not cooking, it's where people gravitate to. Even when we're not entertaining, I cook almost every meal from scratch, so we designed the kitchen with that in mind. The one comment I have on "tiring" of something is that I found after designing and building our home (which I thoroughly enjoyed and wanted to do again immediately after finishing) is that there are always "what ifs" or "we could have done it this way, or that way" or "next time"... It's not that I don't like our current design choices, it's just that my mind is always wondering. If I had to the opportunity, I may do it differently, I may not.. it would depend on how our life was structured at the time and the foreseeable future. I actually agree with Sophie (is the sky falling?!?) - design for how you really live. And if you like 2 islands, build 2 islands....See Morechairs too big for 60” round table
Comments (14)I would push chairs in as far as they comfortably go. I was just noticing that the seats are not completely under the table and still reach nearly to the center column. They may be extra deep as well as wide. That would also make the table seem smaller. I pulled up Wayfair to check chair sizes and they have several styles similar to what you have chosen but with an 18" width. You might want to look there if you want something similar to the wider ones....See MoreHelp me source an 8-seater round kitchen table!

I can't tell you the dimensions of the table, but while we often had a full table with extended family, it was only "full", not cramped. I think you need to take the whole family out for Chinese to do some research...and bring a measuring tape....See MoreFarmhouse kitchen table, round or rectangular???
Comments (11)Dianne -- yes, I would not want to linger over a meal on stools. But a quick breakfast on a stool isn't that bad. As I said it's where you "eat" rather than "dine". We have an interesting story about this work island. We got it from the Scottish Rite in our town when they closed and auctioned everything off. This very table was where we prepped DD's wedding dinner (as we rented the Scottish Rite kitchen for our wedding kitchen because it was right across the street from the reception venue) so it has memories. But I think you'd be happier with a rectangle especially if it is in the middle of the room. As far as "old" rectangular tables -- they're popular now so there should be a lot to chose from -- real antiques as well as those that are made to look like antiques....See MoreBoxerpal
