Does Neem Oil Cure Powdery Mildew?
Comments (15)Neem is an excellent fungicide so feel free to ignore comments by those who just don't know much about its attributes :-) But like the vast majority of any commercial fungicides, it is not curative but only preventative. You need to spray before you see any symptoms. Spraying after the PM becomes obvious will only help to control the spread to any unaffected foliage but it will not 'clean up' what is already present. And the above comment about spraying or hosing down the foliage is on point. PM spores are unable to live in a moist environment or when wet. btw, the product 'Rose Defense' (by Green LIght) was forumated specifically to help control a number of rose fungal issues - PM, rust and black spot - and is clarified hydrophobic extract of neem oil. This was my first intro to neem oil many years ago and I can testify to its effectiveness....See MorePlant ID and Powdery Mildew Help
Comments (8)Lisanti thanks for the ID. Ken, In general these aren't doing that great. They don't look as good as even some of the mediocre photos I've seen online. I don't fertilize them frequently and when I do it's usually with Plant Tone (5-3-3). Next year I'm going to also be using either Flower-Tone (3-4-6) or Garden-Tone (3-4-4) for the flowering plants. I'll probably put down some shortly and again in the spring. In the future I won't fertilize as much but this bed has been neglected a bit. Sounds good? The picture above was taken before applying fertilizer. The foliage grew quite a bit after fertilizer. It's about 2' tall now. The others are shorter and have worse PM. I'm doing some work on the lawn and was planning to widen that bed a bit in a couple of weeks. What's a pip?...See MoreDeadheading and cutting back peonies
Comments (17)After the bloom, during the summer, the foliage is collecting carbohydrates which it is feeding the roots. The roots make storage tubers which will be available to power the spring growth and bloom. If your plant is allowed to cover the leaf surface with mildew the work of the foliage is interrupted. When mildew is first seen the plant should be sprayed with a fungicide to protect the unaffected foliage. I would spray any affected plants no matter how bad the condition. I use a Bordeaux mix on a 10 day cycle of at least three sprays. You may have your peonies planted too close together with not enough air to dry the foliage. It takes about 24 hours of being wet to grow mildew. Al...See Morepowdery mildew on peonies
Comments (3)Unless your plant is a tree peony it will be going dormant in a couple of months and you should cut off the foliage so don't frete. Powdery mildew is a natural it lives on all of the surfaces you have around you. Look at your plants and see if they are too close to other plants. Peonies do get powdery mildew but good air circulation will help. do a search on this group for mildew one of the suggested treatments was diluted milk....See Morerouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)
