Kitchen layout help

We have a pretty small kitchen, a split level home. this is our current design (6x3 island).

we tried to switch the fridge and stove on the walls but the wall with sink is not long enough to allow for enough counter space on either side of the stove.

ive changed the base cabinet to the left of the stove to drawers, the cab just to the right of the sink is going to be a pullout for spices. i am thinking of making the cabinet in the island 18 inches and the drawers 24 inches. any recommendations to rearrange ?

Do you have a floor plan with all dimensions filled in? It will help you get better advice if you do. You can draw one on graph paper if necessary.

I don't usually see the need to swap out a fridge for a CD model. If it sticks out and cuts into a walk way I'd do it if I could financially. I would allow extra inches around it (even if a filler is needed) in case a future fridge is wider. the corners - I agree with rhome on being consistent with whichever type you use. I do think the diagonal corners cut into your space - makes it much more difficult to reach into those corners! The upper diagonals put the cab door smack in your face and give too deep of storage- where things are lost in the back. alternate upper corner cabinet - the pantry - I think it's fine and space like that can always be used. you can use the different doors/shelf areas to separate types of items - like canned goods in one, breakfast and other dry goods in another, 1 for baking supplies, 1 for snack items/juice/soda and /or water bottles. Unless you have a definite need for a counter space closer to the dining area I'd keep it as is. I don't think it's too big. doorways - foyer - I don't see the need for a wider doorway there (am I missing something?). will there be a closet in the foyer? DR/LR doorway - that might be a good idea to check out. make sure your table will fit thru the doorway w/seating also. or you might just set up another table in the LR lined up with the doorway. We did that at my sister's for holidays - there was a large archway between her eating area and her LR so we put another table in her LR running up to the archway so both tables were close together. It was a 'T' arrangement. base cabinets - drawers, drawers and more drawers!! why so few drawers? it looks like it'll be a big, beautiful kitchen with lots of cabinets and counter space! I'd put in more lower drawers tho.

(With no actual layout posted, it's hard to tell.) It looks like you will have close adjacent counters across from the fridge for a fridge landing zone? In that case, pick whichever scenario gives you the most room between the sink and the range. That is where you'll spend 90% of your time in a kitchen and you need to have the most space there. If the sink is not around the corner on the other leg of the L from the range, then do your best to center the range between the fridge and wall as that is what your eyes will focus on. If the sink is on the L, and you have at least 48" of linear counter space between it and the range after shifting it to the left, then that would be fine. Just don't go under 36" of linear space between adjacent sink and range.

What is your appliance budget? If you can easily afford a subzero, it is the way to go. The fridge is the first thing you see upon entering my home. Previous owners had a piece of junk stainless Bertazzoni fridge. I replaced it wil a subzero, panel front, with gorgeous brass handles. Makes all the difference. Subzeros are tanks. But also cost a small fortune. If you keep the fridge in its current location, I’d consider elimination the tall pantry to the left and making that uppers and lowers with counter space. It will reduce the fortress like feel of all that tall cabinetry and lighten things up a bit. Also, what do you intend to store in the tall cabinets to the left of the wow sink? Could you make them uppers, sitting directly on top of lowers with a sliver of countetop material running through them at countertop height to help reduce the fortress like feel of those too?

You have a basic plan with good flow. Although it would be nice to have the wall open where the fridge will need to be, a functional kitchen is better, IMO. It looks as if you have more than 54" between the island and sink run, so I'd suggest making the fridge surround (or stub wall) deeper, and the cabinets on that wall extra deep, to make the fridge look more built in--you don't want the sides of a standard-depth fridge to show. I would use drawers for all base cabs, if possible, and use a 36" super susan in the corner. Or, if making the sink run deeper, void the corner and add the extra space to base cabinets on each side. Will you have a trash pull-out?

Love the advice! On the left of the fridge we have a slider glass door that goes to the deck. There should be about 8” from when the fridge panel ends and the slider begins (we originally wanted a foot but to make the lower cabs useable on that side we needed those few inches) we are planning to get a counter depth fridge.

We ended up changing the cab to left of stove to be drawers, and made the lazy Susan 33” to stove but 36” toward sink and reduced that cab between the lazy Susan and sink to a 9”pullout.

Do you think the 33” wall cabinet next to fridge (between fridge and window) will be too “chunky” ? It’s going to be huge, awesome storage but don’t want it to look odd.

This is the updated layout we purchased, but we have it on hold for production to make some tweaks if needed!

I'm not such an expert, but I'd take into account that sometimes people temporarily need a place to stack space-hogging items, such as large pans, either horizontally or vertically. So the 18" cabinet you had in mind might work well for that, or even a wide drawer at base of under-sink cabinet, or even the space on top of the wall cabinets, however ughy.

Secondly, since you need space-efficiency, i guess you know already about Accuride full-extension drawer slides which offer more drawer space (even if the sides are ughy when they're open).

Thirdly,if it were me, I'd want to set up the microwave where I'd have the least exposure to EMFs. I've no idea where you guys hang out the most within your kitchen, but wherever it is, I'd wanna route any potential EMFs furthest from there.

Fourthly, mama goose, I agree that the more drawers the better (but also perhaps one bank of drawers should be a configuration of Four-drawers, and the narrower bank of drawers should be a configuration of Three-drawers (two of which are deeper.

...as for your Q about trash pullout, here's an ingenious guy who came up with a Kick-to-Open pullout (I think its the simplest of any i've seen, at least for a carpenter, which is NOT me:
