Wine help please

I rarely drink wine and need some help. I am having a picnic on Saturday and I have some wine that who knows where it came from. I was thinking of making a gallon of wine spritz with it. I would like to use it up. I am using one of those glass jars with a spout on it to put it in. The wine is Franzia Sunset Blush. I need to know if I should use ginger ale or Sprite in it? Also I would like to put in some frozen fruit. One review says it has a hint of strawberry. Should I use frozen strawberries, grapes. or something else in it?

Sorry, but no I am not buying another wine. Nobody who is coming is a wine expert.

id prefer if the wine were combined with sparkling water or club soda rather than sweetened soda as well as sliced orange, strawberries, maybe other fruit.

Yes, please don't add more sugary liquid to what is already a somewhat sweet wine. Grapes won't add anything to the flavor, but citrus might help.

I don't claim to be an expert (though I have been making my own beer and wine for 20+ years) and the wine experts/connoisseurs are probably going to cringe at this suggestion. My husband and I prefer dry wines too. However, our lovely daughter detests dry wines (she's more of a Boon's farm drinker). Since we usually have close to 200 bottles of wine on hand at our home, I'm not about to go out and buy a cheap sweet wine when she comes home for a visit. The solution to the problem is simple.........she pours herself a glass of whatever we have open and then sweetens it to suit her taste with sugar. We have a lot of friends who prefer sweet wines and I have shared our daughter's little secret with them. They have all tried it and rave about the improved taste of the wine. While the connoisseurs will turn up their noses at this suggestion, it does work. It's just like iced tea.....some like it plain, some like it slightly sweetened and some like it extra sweet.

We first bought a VinoTemp (POS). Then we bought a house with a Vinotemp (another POS) and then it died. Ended up with a Marvel floor model that is lovely (2 years of use). Be sure to go to the store and look at them in person. I was surprised and how plasticy and junky many of them were. The Marvel has pull out racks that are metal and the build just felt much better than the ULine and others we looked at.

LOL! Chloebud, you remind me. My people are split between wine people and water people. When wine people bring a bottle to an occasion with several different botlles open, I'll usually have them put it on the table for all to share. I rarely know anything about this new thing, but wine people can usually be trusted to bring something some will like. this once, however, I wasn't seated near such a bottle, which was about three quarters gone when I got some. It was SWILL. Tannic, tes, but also acidic, sour, nasty...maybe a bit uric? Just awful. I was so embarrassed! and worried that so much was gone and my guests would be thinking I'd lost my mind. Until I found out that one of the ”plus” people of one of my guests had accounted for most of the bottle, with the guy who brought it on the rest. The former lady apparently is more into drinking than wine. ;)

Listen, I didn't think of sparking water or club soda. Thank you.

Bookwoman I was thinking to add fruit for presentation, but I wouldn't mind if it added to the flavor.

Personally I'm a rummy so don't know what to add in wine.

I think sparkling water or club soda and strawberries would be great with Blush. Cut the strawberries in half at least so a bit of the juice seeps into the mix. It will look beautiful too!

Serve it superchilled with club soda and some ice. When choosing your fruit keep in mind the pink colour of the wine and the underlying taste which I think is strawberry.

Pineapple might be kind of fun.

I agree with the strawberries and perhaps a few halved orange slices for a different color. Plus the sparkling water and ice and it will be good.

I googled rose sangria recipes, and other fruits in those included peaches. You might want to see what you can find that way.

If you can’t remember where and when ypu got this wine, make sure it‘s not spoiled before you go serving it to guests. if you’re not a wine drinker, ask someone who is to smell and taste it for you to make sure.

I agree the sparkling water and strawberries would be nice. Call it sangria. Don't overdo the fruit however.

I know the wine is less than a year old. I'll have my daughter taste it.

Hi function, you might be drinking the wine now and if so i hope you enjoy it . id be surprised if the wine had gone ”off”. strawberries and oranges would be my first choices for color and flavor. i only believe in local peaches / nectarines anymore and if you had some of those they couldnt hurt.

Franzia is very inexpensive bulk wine, at maybe $2 a bottle. Priced about the same as Two Buck Chuck. You don't need to be a wine expert to tell what it is but that's fine because if it's your intent to make a fizzy punch with sugared soda or fruit added, then it doesn't matter. Enjoy your picnic

Lisaam, I do have orange and peaches. Along with grapes and apples in stock.
