I have a new roof & new gutters !
Comments (9)Jan,it's a great house and to be able to have Katrina there is just the best thing of all. I can only imagine how you must feel about the lake house and you've also mentioned a mt. house which sounded really nice. I think this house is pretty and clean looking if you know what I mean. As for the front yard or any other gardens,if it were me I wouldn't do anything until I lived there for awhile and watched the sun come up and the sun go down and really get a feel for the property. Then decide what you want to do. Maybe I'm the wrong person to advise on that because it took me one full year to finally decide where I wanted the rose garden to go and what shape I wanted it to be....See MoreConsumer Reports gutter guard ratings and new gutter guard thread
Comments (12)I used the Home Depot type that handymac describes for many years--they worked fine. I rarely had to go up and do any cleaning--when I did, it was so easy. I had one side tucked under the shingles, and the other side clipped to the edge of the gutter. Before that I had the similar type but without the extra mesh, and those allowed the locust leaves, maple flowers and maple seeds in. When I got new gutters I unfortunately got permanent gutter covers--don't know a brand name, flat perforated metal. The holes are small, and don't seem to let anything through, but because they sit flat on the gutter (actually tilt down slightly toward the wall) debris piles up and packs under the shingle overhang, so I have to climb up twice a year to clean it even though nothing is actually in the gutter itself. I had ice dams for the first time, too, after these were installed. Of course the guy who nstalled them won't return my calls about his "guarantee" that I wouldn't have to clean....See MoreGetting a new roof, what color is best for new shingles and gutters?
Comments (9)A charcoal roof is definitely a great idea. It will look fantastic with the brick. For the gutters, fascia, and trim, you've got a few options—depending on what appeals to you most. White/off white would be the most traditional for gutters, trim and fascia. Using a gray, everywhere, like the gray on the windows of your front porch, will give everything a more updated and sleek look. Or, you could do your gutters and fascia one color, and do all your window trim in black or another color. I would recommend repainting your fascia to match whatever color gutters you choose (and I'd use the same color for the downspout). And I'd also recommend painting all your window trim the same color. I personally really like the gray trim with the black you've got going on with the front porch windows. I'd carry that look to all the other windows on the house. Here's a little sampling of each of those looks, plus a color combination or two you may not have considered. Super cute house, and you've got a great garden! Good luck! Traditional More modern other color combos...See MoreDilemma on new roof and gutter color
Comments (4)Hi Kathy, I can't comment on colors as I'm in my own color dilemma but both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have free programs on their websites where you can upload your picture and try different colors out. My problem was it was really hard for me to draw lines around things like window trim and gutters in order to color them but you may fare better since you are not painting the body of the home just the trim details. Good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
