Need suggestions on arranging furniture in new home. HELP PLEASE! :)
Comments (2)How fun - I actually really like the layout, and think you can absolutely make it work :) Do you particularly want a separate living and family room section? If you don't frequently have guests over to watch movies/sports, you could easily put a tv on the wall where the red leather chair is, and make that your living/family room. Then you could slide your dining space over towards the "family room" area on your diagram (Unless the hard floor vs carpet makes this too awkward.) I bet you could add a lovely reading nook in the corner or desk/workstation (by the window next to their tv station) while still leaving plenty of room for a dining area. If you have to leave your dining where it is because of flooring transitions, or if you want separate living/family room sections, I'd still put the tv in what's labeled the "living room," while in the "family room", you could have an L-shaped seating area in the corner with the seating against the wall (instead of curling in the room middle like their white leather sectional is). That'd open up the room a lot, leaving a good walkway into the "living room" Seating in the "family room" - Like this, without the chevron chair...See MoreAsymmetrical LR: Please help BEFORE we buy furniture! Comments (31)I'm back and am sorry to have deserted this post after receiving such great feedback. Our family was out of town for a bit, and then we had school prep for kids, etc. I finally managed to rearrange furniture and have posted some photos here with my comments below them. As always, I *really* appreciate feedback. I'm ready for new furniture so I can post "after" photos! Thanks in advance. Current sofa - centered in front of fireplace. I DO love the symmetry this provides. It's a little more cramped near the entry than I'd like (see next photo), but might be okay. Still not sure how I would configure other furniture though. Space between centered sofa and corner as you walk in through foyer. Disregard furniture in the background. :) View of entry from great room. Sofa in the window. Nice to use that space, but I'm not a fan. It exacerbates the asymmetrical shape of the room, blocks the view, and isn't very functional. Centered sofa and chair and a half in front of window. The chair is too close to TV here, but this configuration might work with smaller, cleaner-lined furniture. Or possibly a sectional with short section in front of the window? From foyer. Sofa is pulled back as far as I would want without making the walkway behind it too narrow (see previous photos). View of chair on short wall with centered sofa. Note: I can't have two chairs opposing each other, because even if this chair was moved all the way to the edge of the wall behind it, the opposite chair near window sit right next to the TV corner....See MoreHelp Arrange LR furniture
Comments (1)I truly think you can have the back of the sofa to the front door. I think once you get it in there you will be able to see if it looks right or not. I also think you could put the sofa back to the kitchen. Then you can put the chair facing the TV. Just another way to look at it. Depending on the size of your space, two chairs sound like a good idea to me. Here is a pic of my living room (from house we just sold-as we are building a new home) open concept, to kitchen. Sofa backed to front door and kitchen. I hope you can tell in my pics....See MorePlease help with the furniture layout in my new home?
Comments (2)Hi! Thank you! I was thinking having 2 sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace but don’t want to put a tv over the fireplace. I’d like one but can live without it. I can always have an L shaped configuration with sofas facing the wall to the right of the fp and place a tv on that wall with a (floating?) console. I have no idea what to do with the other half of the room. I was wondering if I could put 4 chairs with a round table in the sitting/sun room or if the proportions would be off. I’d like seating for as many as possible. I host my big family (about 30 people) for the holidays every year and I’d like everyone to be comfortable with lots of seating. It is an after dinner gathering so I don’t need to worry about where to fit them for a sit down meal. The wall between the dining room and kitchen is coming down. I plan on putting an island with seating where that wall is presently. I am making the current breakfast nook into a pantry. I am also going to put up a wall into the 2nd entrance into the kitchen so I’ll be able to put a recessed fridge in that space. I will lose the access to the closet under the stairs but could put some sore of access in the powder room bid that crazy? I so appreciate you taking the time. Thank you!...See MoreRelated Professionals
