Rain Rain Rain!
Comments (67)Oh, Kippy! You are SO generous! Thank you (NOT)! LOL! You're very welcome to collect the ones which have grown since the last rain several months ago from just down from the house here. They should make marvelous holiday decorations with sufficient gold spray paint! I'm glad you're more relaxed, Ingrid. I know the feeling, except for watching for the little green shoots starting to creep from under the soil... If you have that nasty invader in the shadier areas of your garden, that means there is water there. It grows where there is water, from Mexico to Canada. It CAN be eradicated, but it does demand herbicides. If you dig the tubers and leave them in the direct sun, they shrivel and die (vampires!), and I have done that with literally several hundred over the years. I've unearthed quite a few the size of a V-8 American automobile engine and they shriveled and dried up once exposed to the elements. Others have been "dispatched" with buckets of "the devil's brew" herbicide we won't mention, with the tendrils wrapped around inside them so they sucked it up like wicks. It didn't take long and they NEVER reemerged! Kim...See MoreRain, rain, go away!!
Comments (14)What a lovely story, Marg. My yard, which usually has at least two sittings of robins each year, and lots of birds at my feeder has been devoid of birds this year because of an 'infestation' of wild cats. A neighbour moved and left their cat, and it got together with another stray and we have cats roaming all over our yards, and using our flower beds as bathrooms. I found a 'nest' near my lilacs last week and they were feathers in it, so they are killing and eating birds, so no wonder they are staying away. Anway last weekend my neighbour and I set out a trap and we have caught nine so far!! There are three generations and the smallest are still babies. We still have to get the two big males. One of them, while trapped in the cage, growled and hissed at me, bared his teeth showing his wildness. He attacked my neighbour when he tried to get him out of the trap, so he got away. Now they won't come near the trap. We are now awaiting the Humane Society to pick them up. They have destroyed many of my plants: a new clematis, zinnias, foxgloves, and verbascum to name a few. I have spent much time trying many ways to keep them out and they all work for a time, but with all this rain you have to keep repeating the treatment and it's time consuming. I hope I can control things with just the males around. It's still raining almost every day here. When will it end? Northerner....See MoreOkay, now I'm nigh dancing!!
Comments (8)LOL I'm so happy we made it through an entire 14 hours with no rain. I think I will hold onto the sun for one more day and if I catch any garden imps they will be forced to serve lattes to the filming crew of Scapehunter. Yes, Christine. I used to do that, too, but now I employ much better methods such as writing "Bluebird Butterfly in pot closest to door." Then moving the pot for the winter.;)...See MoreThe (nekkid) Turtle Dance Thread
Comments (33)Yeah! My favorite post is active again. I am painting the permanent turtle facing west on my sidewalk instead of my driveway because there is a hole there to punch in the necessary stick. Those rose bushes must go. "if there is too much rain participants must dance counterclockwise" For me it is easier to twirl clockwice than counterclockwise (maybe not for lefties)...See Morerouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)
