Comments (150)That's so funny! That time I thought you were just being silly! Good news at the dentist always makes for a better day! Yay! Lisa - I'm so sorry that I've been remiss in taking time to post on the board that I received my prize package from you. I sent you an e-mail when it arrived on Monday. I hope you received it. To everyone else - Lisa sent me the nicest box of prizes from last month's games. For some game when I was the next person to post (it seems like we were waiting for Tracy to materialize but I don't remember why) she sent me some nice gloves and plant markers. For finding that tiny Christmas tree, thereby putting an end to her 'I Spy' game, she sent me a plant off of my want list. She chose to give me Phlox 'Orange Perfection'. I was very excited to get this, as I've never seen it in my area. And, just because she's so sweet, Lisa sent me another start from Larry's iris collection! I'm a lucky girl!...See MoreFeb. Comments (321)I'm glad you all liked the cards! As usual, I had lots of fun making them! And now for some interesting news: In my mail today, there was a returned card and seeds that I had sent to Connie/wildhairedmavens, in the Feb. Swap. Can you imagine how I felt? "Oh no, now what?" was the least of it! But then I got to thinking and I was sure that Connie had posted she received. SO......I checked back in here and yes, she did receive the cards and seeds, the SECOND TIME I sent out! Talk about relief! And it's really strange that the address they couldn't send this card to was the same address I sent the second card to. Oh the mysterious ways of the US Postal System! I guess that all's well that ends well! have a great day, All! Shirley!...See MoreFOTESS July swap: Wicked Plants
Comments (179)Evening All! Well, Katie, I have to tell you that I tried the Hawaiian Current tomatoes today and they were quite tasty! Just a little sweet. However, I had to remove one of the plants - I had noticed last night that something was eating the leaves, and discovered what it was tonight. Yes, it was Manduca Goinguemaculata! Good Grief! A tomato hookworm, 3, to be exact. I pulled them off and drowned them. Boy, they sure stripped that plant fast! Fortunately, it was the plant that wasn't fruiting, so I may get to eat more of the HCs. Strange experience! Ruth, I tend to get excited when I see a grave stone with "1700"s on it. They are rare, at least for me. Would love to see one where the person passed in the 1700s. Have a great night! Shirley!...See MoreFOTESS July Swap: Bon Appetit
Comments (170)Breanne, congratulations! You got it! Nashville Hot Chicken is correct. You probably knew that too. The Music City Hot Chicken Festival started in 2007 and is held on July 4 each year. The princely origins refers to the fact that the dish is reportedly created when Thorton Prince's significant other was miffed that he stayed out late and the next day, she made fried chicken with a significant amount of hot spices to punish him but he instead loved it. He later opened up Prince's Hot Chicken Shack, the original Nashville Hot Chicken. The hottest version sold there is reportedly painfully hot, but that is why people go for it. In the PBS show Mind of a Chef, Sean Brock (Chef of Husk restaurants) went to Prince's to eat and was literally sweating from it. I personally love Hattie B's version of the dish with medium heat. I have never gotten the hottest version and have no wish to try. KFC made their own version of dish and put it on their menus in 2016. Banquet foods has a frozen Nashville hot chicken with macaroni and cheese. I have never seen it in the stores but I generally don't look at the frozen dinner section of the supermarket. Ruth, I would have accepted your answer since it is the same thing but Breanne was first. Great job on this swap, everyone. We are officially done with this month....See Moresandlapper_rose
