Ceiling fan with coffered ceiling?? Confused...
Comments (13)happyday321.....first, if you decide to do a fan, I would not do a light kit (kind of similar to the tacky look of a white ceiling fan imo). FWIW, we didn’t install any ceiling fans in our new home (I would rather have a nice chandelier), BUT, we’re in a rental now waiting to finish up our build, and there are ceiling fans here. One of them is in a vaulted ceiling (14 feet up), and I have to say that it does help to cool thngs off for those feeling a little flash of heat now and then :) Four cans in a 20x22 foot room seems a bit skimpy to me. I am by no means a lighting expert and the amount of cans I installed in my greatroom most “normal” people would consider completely overkill. The room is 20x20, and we have 11 cans (and that lighting doesn’t include the center chandelier :) ). Two cans are directed towards the fireplace wall so let’s not count those, so that would be 9 cans. If I remember correctly, my lighting guys recommended 6 in our greatroom. My ceilings are only 10 feet and yours are 12, so that needs to be taken into account as well....See MoreCeiling speaker fire hoods for garage speaker
Comments (12)Here's an enclosure you can buy for example: https://www.homecontrols.com/homecontrols/products/pdfs/NV-Nuvo/NBRKICBC-Specifications.pdf It's not the light gauge speaker wire that's the issue, it's the speaker cones catching fire and accelerating to the ceiling and creating more fire above. So wireless speakers will not resolve the problem. Its fire code they have to be boxed in where you live apparently. Looks like you will have to dig out the drywall in the ceiling to install, not a huge job, but inconvenient....See MoreCove Lighting a Vaulted Ceiling & Recessed Lighting Placement
Comments (5)Yes. The reason I ask is in designing the illumination of a space with different types of light (cove, down, and natural) great care should be taken in harmonizing the ceiling/cove configuration along with the fixtures and bulbs to create a unified whole. Cove lighting illuminates the ceiling and if there is not enough distance from the source of the light to the ceiling, hot spots are created. Contact a local lighting designer/consultant to address your unique situation, there are too many factors involved to be solved over the internet....See MoreLED Strip Lighting - Outdoor Coffered Ceiling
Comments (3)Here are a several photos. In these photos, when tape lights are used, all the "boxes" are lighted. I think it would look weird if you lit only some of them. Perhaps the best solution would be to center recessed lights in the boxes. If you arranged them in a pattern, you would necessarily need to have a light in every box: perhaps lights in box 1, 3, 5,... in the first row, then 2, 4, 6,... in the second row, etc. These Nicor 3" shallow, canless recessed lights might fit. Or maybe it would be better to use low-voltage canless lights to simplify wiring by eliminating the need for Romex and a power supply at each location. -- amateur...See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
