Comments (1093)Yes. If you haven't already figured this out, there are numbers of how-to-do-it posts here starting with the "Featured Answer" at the top of this thread. Because Houzz displays only part of the Featured Answer, you want to click on the faint "read more" line to get Houzz to display the rest of that detailed post by Luna123456. Also, there are something like 1.1k additional posts in this thread, most of which are not initially displayed. On my computer, I have to display all the posts before I can do a full search of the thread. Houzz makes you look below the "Featured Answer" to find the fine print which currently reads "see 1037 more comments." You may have to click a "See more comments" several times to get Houzz to display all of the posts. Then you can do a terms search (CTRL-F calls up a search box on MS Windows computers.) That will get you the posts with recommendations on specific brands of detergents and oxy liquids to use with DIY refilling....See MoreMiele USA W1's Prewash/Soak/Add Item June 2022 Update Fix Ready
Comments (217)My WWH860 was updated by the app about two weeks ago. I never had the problem with the prewash so I wasn't sure why. I did have to rerun the Calibration program. What I noticed after? Water plus no longer automatically appears in the app as an Extra. There is less water in every fill in every program. I had previously entered the programming menu and set water plus to one water drop a few months before the update, so I went back into that menu and reset it to one drop, afterward not much difference in the water level. I entered the menu again and set the level to 2 drops. There might be a bit more water but it is hard to notice. Still less water in the machine than before the update. I've turned auto-update off. From now on if nothing is wrong I don't want any updates....See MoreBest (for me) laundry soap in Miele W1 ?
Comments (10)First: Be sure to turn the 'Maximum Rinse Level' in the programmable settings. This will improve rinsing quite a bit. It explains how to do this later on in the manual. Second: Since you have hard water, I highly recommend using a more powerful detergent that will be able to cope with your water hardness. Be sure you aren't using a 'detergent' that may cause buildup (detergent or mineral) and ruin the machine you just purchased. As dadoes stated, STPP is a great way to help combat this. Third: I highly recommend a detergent containing enzymes. My personal recommendations would be either Tide Advanced Oxi (Costco) or Persil Oxi. Both can deal with hard water, clean really well, and can be dosed at a lower quantity without too many issues. The Persil does not have as strong of a scent compared to the Tide....See MoreMiele W1 WXR860WCS washing machine - laundry is oily
Comments (22)The things we can't see over the internet when we talk about detergent dosing are someone else's machine capacity, size of their average laundry load, level of "dirty" on that laundry, and soft/hard water quality. I suspect dosing might be part (or all) of the issue. You mention in your OP that your water is soft and averages 32 ppm. IIRC, Miele detergents are formulated in Europe, where water generally runs hard to very hard, IIRC. My current SQ FL has a 3.5 cu ft capacity. I rarely fill the machine 3/4 full with laundry; usually more like 1/2 to 3/4 full. Our average water hardness is 90 ppm per the 2020 city report. I never use more than half of whatever the detergent package recommends for a 3/4 full load. Usually loads are smaller so even less than that is used. Our clothes generally aren't very dirty, except for hubby's golf clothing that is quite sweaty and grimy with sunscreen on the collars and shorts hems and pockets, which get a half-dose. Everything gets less than a half-dose. Currently, the water here is running softer (we had over 7" rain in July and water supply is sourced from a local large river) and I'm using even less detergent, based on the small pile of suds I see in the gasket after the final spin (I'm retired and have the time to look...LOL) even though there are no visible suds in the wash or rinse water. On small loads (half-full or less), I'm currently using a teaspoon (5 ml) of detergent. And our water has 3x the ppm that yours has. Your machine, at 2.5 cu ft, is even smaller than mine, so dosing might be part (or all) of the problem, IMHO. Using a detergent you've used in the past will help, I think, because you know it....See MoreRelated Professionals
