Well mine is actually a mix of extra tiles I ordered for the kitchen backsplash (long story short...they're the pieces that I should have ordered bullnose) and they're too expensive to just let sit in a box, so I thought I'd do a backsplash on the desk to remind me how stupid I was for the rest of my life LOL But since they're not bullnose (they're handmade tiles) I needed an edge for them, and didn't want to spend a fortune so I purchased some really pretty little glass tiles to go on the top and near the bottom two little tiles deep. But frankly, that's hand made tile AND glass tile LOL Bill and Mongo have made me so danged tile crazy (in a good way) that it sounded like a fun project for the future...but maybe not heh heh As I typed this I got a new email with my tile install bid...CHOKE ummm $17,900....Ouch. Maybe I can tackle this little job LOL

Selm - please start your own thread when asking for help. This is an old thread - over 2 years old and it's likely many will not look at it; I only looked at it b/c I saw the old origination date and figured it was either: A pro attempting to solicit business by supposedly helping the original poster (we've had a lot of that kind of "spam" since the Houzz takeover) -or- Someone new who didn't know they should be starting their own threads and not hijacking someone else's thread. I don't know for certain which camp you fall into, but if you truly are asking for help, your own thread will be better. I think many people ignore the older threads b/c of the prevalence of the first.

Whoo-hoo! Fun expedition. Field tile (glass, ceramic, or their glazed brick is all $7 per square foot. Decorative tiles were I thin $7 per tile (!!!), although the little 2x2 decos my daughter coveted were $2 each. Of course, the downside of the excellent pricing was the challenge in finding enough matching or coordinating tile to do the job. We found 2 boxes (20 square feet) of the Wave tile in slate, which was a bit darker than what my friend wanted. And a bit less than the 30 square feet she needed, but she could supplement with full-priced tile or use two colors. We also found a box of red, dark blue (almost black), royal blue, cobalt, turquoise, periwinkle, and two other grays. Not more than a box of each, though. My friend was still deciding when we had to leave to get my daughter to a playdate. They had bins of random glass tiles that they were selling to use for mosaics that they were selling by the box. My daughter begged, so I let her get a box ($10). I told her we could find a table at Goodwill and mosaic the top. I have NO experience tiling, so that should be interesting. The above pic is of some seriously large, seriously detailed, tile, of which there were many. Probably 40 square feet or more.

Love this room. I would consider painting the room a lighter version of any color in the brick because that is your focal point! The layout looks good too as you can see the tv and the fireplace while seated on the sofa. I think you should decide on the paint that will coordinate with the brick. Then choose a light large rug, maybe broadloom in a light tweed rug to banish the dark flooring and create contrast with your sofa. I would also put the cool guitars on either side of the TV in a long horizontal line to fill the wall. Try the copper piece between the two doors. Put a large rectangular mirror on the brick fireplace Find large art work for the far wall where the guitars are now...maybe a triptych to fill the area; Matching lingerie type tall chest on either side of the fireplace with colorful lamps on them. A console table behind the sofa facing the fireplace with a pair of low fat lamps, possibly brass or silver or zinc. A pair of lamps on the new art wall where the guitars are hanging now. Something that will look good with the art work; clear glass with colored lampshades? A large lounge chair between the TV console and the fireplace, basically where the ottoman is now with a side table and a lamp for reading. This will give you six pair of lamps for lighting and one floor lamp for lighting plus storage. They should be large and fat to fill the room. and light colored will give you contrast....Have light, white cream natural fabric, fur throw pillows on the sofa to lighten it up too.
