kitchen sink - pros and cons of having drain in back
Comments (6)thanks for all the input! Sounds like it definitely makes sense to go with an offset (thanks for clueing me in on the terminology, askchicago :) drain. Does anyone have a suggestion for a reasonably priced 30" (approx) stainless undermount sink with an offset drain? I was hoping that Ticor had one, but wasn't able to find one. I saw this no-name one on Overstock.com ($153) http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Elongated-Stainless-Steel-Undermount-Kitchen-Sink/2332835/product.html or a Kraus ($370) http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Kraus-30-inch-Undermount-Single-Bowl-Stainless-Steel-Kitchen-Sink/3381330/product.html...See MoreDecora Kitchen cabinets - Pros Cons
Comments (10)i have decora Arlington cherry cabinets. Sorry I don't recall the door style (SHOCKER!! a year ago i would've known the edge profile on the door style by heart). we had them installed a bit more than a year ago. i love my cabinets. the finish is amazing and so are the syle, durability, etc.... i did not have a great experience with Decora though. We placed the order in Jan 2007, shortly before the price spike, and the order was delayed by about 2 weeks (about 8 weeks all together) due to a spike in production (a lot of people wanted to take advantage of the 2006 pricing). It seems that the QA was seriously affected. I had to have at least 1 cabinet replaced, at least 9 doors replaced, some molding pieces were not stained perfectly and had to be replaced. I don't recall all the gory details but everything is in my blog. It was a pain and delayed the remodeling considerably. HOWEVER, customer support was amazing. everything was replaced, i didn't have to send anything back and i got a bunch of freebies. I heard plenty of bad stories with horrible customer support, Decora was the opposite. they really know how to correct their mistakes. my KD said that it was the first time he has seen so many issues with decora and also attributed the drop in QA standards due to a rapid production spike. Normally, (in his opinion) it is one of the more reliable cabinet makers. beware of the great variability in pricing. i got cabinets at 55% off the list price. the other place i looked at had the decora cabinets at a measely 30% off the list price. also their website is very customer -friendly. they have the specs that allowed me to perfect the kitchen and to drive my KD crazy, LOL. so, in summary: i love my decora cabinets and would most likely buy from them again (someday for a bathroom redo). but we had some major gliches along the way... Comments (23)I am going to insist that my cabinets are made with American birch plywood. I do not want any building materials made in China in my home and so far so good. We have obtainied all the structural wood from a local saw mill, from local wood. Our metal roof was made by a local business. Our floors will be local heart pine, and our interior walls and ceilings are local cypress. American plywood is more money than the Chinese plywood. American plywood is 50 some dollars a sheet as compared to about 25 dollars a sheet for Chinese. American plywood will be stamped and certified. Cabinets are one of the most expensive investments for your home. At least they should be. For me, I would rather have cabinetry that would last a life time, and have minimal toxicity, and have to save for a finished basement. But that is me. Your wants and needs may be different than mine. In the whole scheme of things paying extra now won't seem so much later on, particularly if you remain problem free. Who is your cabinet maker? I still have a couple of people to talk to yet and look at their work, but so far I haven't found quite the level of workmanship I want. Sandy...See MoreAdding a Bar Sink to Coffee Bar. Pro’s and Con’s?
Comments (4)Did you make a choice yet? I’m in the same boat. The main sink is on the island with eat-up depth and we have another counter on the opposite side to use for coffee/bar/serving area. Is the sink useful to reduce traffic at the main sink or is it better to keep the counter clear? There is a bathroom and a laundry sink right down the hall for additional hand washing so this sink would probably only serve to fill the coffee pot and dump/rinse glasses between drinks. There’s already a drain there so plumbing is easy. I’m leaning to no but worried I’ll regret it....See More
