Diggin' in the Dirt
Comments (36)The weather gods are sweet. Last weekend was ever so nice. During the week, however, we had a couple of nights where the low was 20 degrees and the wind chill didn't play nice either. A couple of days where it didn't get above freezing. But this weekend is shaping up to be ever so nice too. Todays high will be 62 degrees with mixed sunshine. I could say mixed clouds but today I am an optimist. Tomorrow will be warmish, too, but with clouds and maybe some rain. At this time of the year I don't complain much when it's cloudy or raining as long as the temps are pleasant. And 60 degree temps are a pleasure.... So, there will be digging in the dirt today. I have a few spare windows that I have been saving and methinks I will construct a cold frame for the orphan's bed. But it will be more like a miniature green house. Most importantly, I am outside again today....See MoreDiggin' 'em up
Comments (9)I can't grow punkins - I have too much shade. Also, I hate dealing with those stupid squash bugs, which inevitably find my squash every year, and I fight and fight, but they always win. I did manage to grow one small punkin (about 18" diameter) that I plucked the day my granddaughter was born (October 26th). Ah....wish I could say the same for my daughter. Alas, she could care less about gardening. Now, for my granddaughter, I have hope. She already is helping with the butterfly rearing and digging in the plants, helping me with soil, watering, etc., and she is not yet 4. Great job with the Amorph. Comments (9)I feel your pain Vera. I didn't move I just had to move 14 years of perennial beds from late August when we found out where the new syptec system would have to go till October 11 when it went in. The man from the Health Dept., who had to be there to tell the septic people where they could put it, said to me "you're taking this rather well"! What could we do, rent a port-a-potty and throw our bath water out the window? LOL The weather didn't cooperate with too much rain to dig properly. I sold, gave away and transplanted till the garden area I had free was full of plants. Then I farmed out plants to family and friends. Lastly were the bulbs to hunt for through pictures I had taken. Those were shared with family and planted in every spot I could think of. The worst problem is I didn't get colors of flowers marked as I didn't think there would be a problem and the garden area would be used for the new drainfields. WRONG !! When I replant in the spring I will have no idea what color is near what color. That goes for iris, daylilies, other lilies, bulbs, almost everything! So it will be like starting over again as you are. My garden was one of 12 gardens viewed on our local Garden Walk in 2006. It will have an entirely different look for the next few years until I get everything repositioned and that could take years!! Actually I'm looking forward to starting over and being able to change things. Now will my body hold up, who knows!?! Connie...See MoreI'm Diggin It!!!
Comments (11)I'm digging too much brug juice .........NOT. Not too bad but 9 hours yesterday left me seeing things!! Not as bad tonight, as I only spent two hours taking up the rest of my cuttings (all my dang seedlings that did not bloom because the cold is two weeks early!). They are waiting downstairs for me to come bucket them up. I wasn't gonna do that this year, the bucket thing, but there is no way after yesterday that I could dig and pot up 35 seedlings. So, like i said, they are waiting downstairs for me to stick their feet in water!! I'm thinkin bout going down there! But I can't move!! ;-) Darn, that feet-up, whiskey-in-hand, sitting-in-front-of-a-fire sounds fine!! Real fine!! LOL!!!!!!! Wish that were me! Hey, congrats, Kylie!! Nearly done!!...See Moregawdinfever Z6
