If you look at historical references, part of the process is deciding what material you want it to look like. Sometimes combinations of wood and composite and areas of plaster were all painted out white and matched the ceiling. Sometimes the cornice was painted to match the trim in a satin finish, especially if the trim was a bold color. Ornamental ceilings like your Adam ceiling would be polychrome with the background in the wall color or a paler version of the wallcolor with the ornament picked out in white (kind of like cameos or Jasperware), or sometimes a lot of color would be used on an ornamental ceiling going as far to pick out details in gold leaf. My impression, thinking about the house in general is that you are going to want to go with (a version of) white in many of the rooms and save the color for the Adam ceiling and other ornamented ceilings.

I love the idea that red offers a splash of excitement. Semms like the rest of the decor is neutral. What I see is that your bedroom is all neutral. So, bring in that splash of excitement in the MBR because you can see it if you leave your door open. If the room is long, and there is some floor space at the foot of the bed, you might put a chair and table there that matches the LR open space. If not, you could put a red throw since it would the the closest to the door in view. A red pillow to bring your eye back a little. Or red flowers on the night stand. I would do this when you are entertaining friends and they can see into the room, this way that room is festive also. The other posters are right, the rule of thumb is to have it flow together. I also feel that when you decide to add drama with high contrast (a color that pops) you really need to carry that throughout because it becomes obvious if done only once. Decorating is easier to understand when working in layers. Your walls & floors, all the 'case' or 'box' all will sit in, then main pieces, pretend your room is empty of all else but major furniture and walls, drapery. Does it flow? Then supporting pieces, if they do not flow with main, do they flow together? Such as (to make my point easier to understand) all tree branch and natural shaped end tables, and metals flow together (you can always break the rules). Then lighting for task, general lighting done, then accessories, do they flow together, for example, all about birds and nests (reflecting the wood branch metal tables, etc.) again simplified to make my point easier to envision. Then you would have a cohesive look. Now, being creative, artistic, and adventurous, we can bend all the rules and decorate any way we want and move things around until it is pleasing to US first... don't worry about pleasing others, it is your nest, your home. I would do your entire bedroom in matte, including the accent wall. Matte is in between flat and eggshell. It's a really nice restful sheen that reduces glare- we have used it everywhere in our home that is reasonably low traffic. I like your idea of the bedroom accent wall (with the suggested modification. I don't like your idea of the staircase wall. It's going to be weird when you're walking through a hallway and each side is a different color. I would pick an end of the staircase instead. And I also agree you should go with the lighter color throughout- your selection is much more modern, beachy, and bright. That tan is old fashioned and dark. We painted over the exact color in our lakeside home when we moved in and you wouldn't believe how much bigger the space felt after.

A little more info to everyone’s comments: Attached are a few more pictures. 2 photos are from the old listing that gives more of an idea of the entire room, 1 photo is how I had it “decorated” (room was half-butt put together to make it functioning before the remodel), and the last picture is to give a better visual of what the wall art will be like. As for the wall art, the lighting will only be set on the outside edge of the piece so that it cast light on the walls in either 2 or all 4 directions. My thoughts were that I would make 2 of these and put 1 on each side of the chairs. I do not want the actual piece itself in the middle to be lit up, I only want to use it to cast light on the walls. I was looking at ikea floor lamps that aim up at your walls but though this might add a more unique touch? Idk really; this room is just so dark that I’m really just exploring all options right now.
