Lots of Eyes in Thursday's Photos

We're back to the 90s now, and the ground is parched. The rain we got a few days ago was little more than a sprinkle for 8 minutes. With the lack of moisture, blooms are getting smaller. Many of my mids still haven't started blooming, although three of the lates started today. Such a weird season!

This is my yellow seedling that had 40 buds last year. Bud count is pretty high this year, but I don't think any scape has 40 this time.

Beautiful! Bob and I debated about getting Lonesome Jaguar last year and didn't in the interest of not spending too much. I guess we should have gotten it. It's very nice. The other one I like is Pistil Whipped. It has a distinctive look. Your seedlings are wonderful. I like the dark toothy seedling the best. It is sure nice when you get 40 buds per scape even if you don't get that many every year.

Silverkelt, I'm surprised about the Bucks. They do so well for me. I love them, but I guess your weather and soil is quite different than here. Betty, You might not believe me, but I don't feed them.(Well the roses along the front walk do get pond water from when I clean the filter, but none of those are in this pic thread.) I do dig good holes and amend the soil when I plant and mulch well, but other than that they are pretty much on their own. I have added compost to Mme. Ernst Calvat in the past because she seem to have needed it. So once in a blue moon, I'll do that if a rose seems to be losing vigor, but most go for many years without any feeding. I also haven't even sprayed them in years with insecticidal soap or anything. So the foliage is what it is. I really haven't had serious foliage issues in year. Dr. Huey that came with the house (not shown) gets black spot pretty good every year, but he is in such a difficult space to get out, I've left him there. Maybe one day I'll remove him. So pretty much my garden is a tough love garden. I give you a good spot to put down roots, prune you once in awhile, if you seem to be starving, I'll feed you, but other than that, you are on your own, lol. Remy

Thanks to all of you who gave me positive comments on Born to Run, but 1 out of 16 blooms so far isn't really very good. It has set several seed pods. Maybe I'll have better luck with its kids. Rita, Jean and Linda - Love On A Wire is nicer than I remembered from last year. Today's bloom was the ffo, and I really liked the color and the form. Julia - Westbourne Little Lamb's eye is a true red, although the veining may look wine colored. It's so well budded and well-branched this year compared to last. But the scapes are still shorter than registered. It's such a cheerful flower. Casey - I'll take every good bloom I can get from Born To Run. It may be one of those daylilies that only looks good grown in a greenhouse. That's where I first saw it growing, and the blooms were flawless. Celeste - I hope Born To Run will do great for you. I've seen lots of photos of it looking pretty. Chris - I have no idea how American Doll would do as far north as you are. It had a slow start in my garden. But here in it's third year, its really clumped up and the scapes are tall and well-budded. Avedon, Cindy and Celeste - Tyrolean Treasure is a very nice bitone and a strong grower. It's one flaw is a propensity for scape blast. Nancy - Francis of Assisi is not as tall as it should be where I have it growing, but so far no flowers are actually down in the foliage. Key To My Heart is always lovely. I must put that on my short list for next year. I have Peach Magnolia and it doubles all the time for me too. I moved it last year, so it didn't perform very well for me this year. Mine has been done blooming for a couple of weeks now. Vickie

I suspect that the unit has failed. Replace it. Be sure the new one is rated for at least the wattage of your light --or more.

Picasso's Intrigue is awfully pretty, Lonesome Jaguar is a lovely clump...your yellow seedling is just sunshine in a bottle. so pretty! and lots of blooms and buds make it even better. so many pretty ones; nice post, Debra.

The Yellow Seedling has a tinge of green? Pretty. I can't pic a favorite as I like them all. I was intrigued by Browns Ferry Cream Supreme. I'll have to look that one up. New for you? Picasso's Intrigue looks very good in a multibloom pic. Nice photos Debra.

Picasso’s Intrigue always grabs my eye but it really shines in multiple bloom! I do like that yellow seedling. And you got quite the edge on Coco’s Curiosity seedling! I still like the Karelia seedling too. These temps are heating up a lot. I am having bud drop on lots of my lates.

What a post! I really can't pick a favorite. So many of the purples I like, and the non purples are exceptional. I just like every one. I will say, the Alan Lane Agin made me look again, then again.

Julia - Yes, the yellow seedling has a green overlay in the mornings. Browns Ferry Cream Supreme was new last year, and is just now blooming. It's still in a pot, and the scapes are short.

Nancy and Hoosier Nan - (Alan Lane Agin x Cosmic Sensation) x Betty Bush #3 is the nicest of that cross so far. It's a one-year old seedling and only has eight buds this time, but I hope as it matures, it will have more buds.

Kate and Kay - Picasso's Intrigue is hard to beat when it has multiple blooms. It's been so pretty this time.

Hoosier Nan - Pistil Whipped is great, although it still has short scapes for me. I do love it's pattern.

Kate - Thanks for commenting on the edge on the Coco's Curiosity seedling. It was exactly what I was trying to accomplish with that cross. The yellow seedling looks more yellow in person. I have trouble not blowing the color out on yellows.

Lots of nice ones. My favorite of the bunch is Coco's Curiosity x Cexy Samantha. Great form and color combo.

Hoosier Nan - I think Lonesome Jaguar would be a great one for you to use in hybridizing. It has a light orange base, so you could cross it with some of your oranges with edges. I wanted to order more from Derrow this year, but he didn't sell this year because of drought conditions last year. I will definitely buy more from him in the future.

So many great photos again. Pistil Whipped caught my attention, lovely pastels and a killer pattern. will you use it for your hybridizing? Such a nice color combo on Royal Cypher. Your seedlings are showing off again! I like the two sharing the spotlight, vying for the leading role.

Sherry - I love the look of Pistil Whipped, but it's a dip, and I don't do much hybridizing with dips. I crossed it with two of my older dips last year but haven't planted the seeds. So many seeds, so little space. Thanks for your comments about the seedlings!
