Cost to build a garage

We are looking to build a carport but the estimate for a 20x20 (usable space) carport with a monoslope roof and a 6x12 shed was around $50k.
How much is it these days for a 2 car garage?? This seems excessive

I'm in Central Texas (your area matters :-) ), and we had an 8x10 garden shed built for $8k back in January/February of this year (2 windows; no electrical, no plumbing). Our neighbors next door asked the same company for an estimate for a garden shed, as well, maybe 8x12, and were quoted $20k in May.

So, if you are in my area, I'd say that $50k sounds about right. Unfortunately. :-(

If you don't have specific drawings to look at with an exact scope specified, then bids are just ballpark numbers, with a big cushion on the high side (and another bigger one for these times). Get at least 3 bids to start narrowing in on a true cost.

Cool, I'd love to here about the progress of these projects. 120$ per sq foot gives me at least an idea of cost. Im just starting this. Id also like the structure above the garage to be two level. My neighbor estimated his cost to be 85,000$ for a 3 car 24 x 36 structure which included everthing from start to finish. Ill keep updating this as I go along. Id love to her about your projects too. I am a single woman who is pretty clueless about building projects and have never done this before but I know a lot of carpenters, builders etc..... Its going to be quite the learning process. I think the general response is that there are too many variables to even think of guessing at what your build cost is going to be. Based on the above image, you are adding 965 sq ft to an existing new home build. Maybe think of it as a percentage instead (for instance if your existing new home is 3000 sq ft, adding another 500 sq feet (new MBR, Bath, Closet) will roughly push the build price up 15%.

Have you had the roof checked in that area? Considering you’ve replaced seals, with the small overhang in that area, a roof leak in that general area may not be obvious on the back side of the soffit, but would likely show up as a “leak” at the edges of the garage door. Have a poke around at the drywall on the inside of the garage at the top and sides of the garage door. You might be able to detect a wet area indicative of water in the framing. A roof leak in that general area will penetrate under the sheathing, then may follow a rafter to the sill plate above the garage door, or to the end of the rafter before it follows the next route down the wall.

So...you dont have a house? And you dont have land? Someone down the street did exactly that. Then they lived in it a while, then built the rest. So yeah...doable. As for cost, talk to a builder. Someone in the neighborhood said theirs was 200k 8 years ago. Not including land. But that number means nothing.

lol -- We definitely considered Costco when we built our ($8k) shed, but I've been mad at Costco lately, lol. We also really wanted to pay local guys for local work. <3
