Contextual Beauty___or a Good Fit.
Comments (148)I forgot to say that Kahn is rather unpopular in Philadelphia, and in the US in general. I am not an uncritical fan of his work, but I like some of it, and for a builder in a rather ugly style, he managed to do it quite beautifully on occasion. He lived less than a block from where I sit, in a 19th c. house, in a neighborhood that was not that great in his lifetime. It was interesting in My Architect how people talked to his son about hating his buildings, Edmund Bacon called him an idiot (or something like that) and yet people in the Institute of Public Administration, at Ahmedabad, India, (1963) got practically teary-eyed talking about their buildings, and his death, decades later. Incidentally I looked at a house which may have been designed by Anne Tyng, one of his baby-mamas (for shorthand)...it was interesting, executed at a time when either technology or money was lacking to meet the design, and out of my budget....See MoreEngine runs good then fit of missing and backfiring then back to good
Comments (18)Well.. phase one is in process and it looks like I may have a new problem (lucky me).. The new problem seems to be relative to the primer. The engine normally starts right up on the first pull after priming. I repeated the 3x prime and pull cycle about 10 times before it finally started. On the non starting attempts it made no effort to fire as if there was no fuel. On the final pull it started perfectly with no sputter or any sign of anything out of the ordinary. Just before the primer encounter above.... I got rid of all the old fuel in the gas can and refilled with REC 90 non ethanol and added 1oz of StarTron. I added one oz of StarTron directly into the fuel tank which had old fuel in it. After I got the engine running with all the repeat priming it ran pretty well. About 3/4 of the way thru the yard I did get a couple 'missing' events each lasting less than one second. These were not nearly as severe as before. Also note that the yard was not that tall so the engine was not nearly as loaded as when it acted up badly before. Thanks very much for the continuing help. I appreciate it. Oh.. the dang recoil cord finally broke! There was enough cord to let me reattach the pull handle near to the engine rather than its normal location on the mower handle...See MoreDo the lampshades fit the lamps? (2 pix) ???
Comments (7)The solid lamp is in the living room; the floral is in my bedroom (on night tables ). I am still in the market for lamp shades ( I need 4 and bought 2) and trying to decide if I should just go and get 2 more of the same and be done with it. I kind of agree that they are not optimal, and I have thought about getting something similar to Ingrid's style for the floral ones. I think next time I am at Home Goods or Target I will get 2 more of one of those styles. I previously had tried a slightly larger one from Home Goods on the solid blue lamp and it looked pretty good, but of course I could only find one shade. So I then I found these 2 at Tarjay and have been ok with them. I would like to be done with them and get on to more decorating issues I am having so the fact that most of you thought they were fine--- I think they are fine. :) And under $20 at Target works for me-...See MoreWould Alabaster be a good fit?
Comments (1)would Alabaster walls with Pure White trim be decent combination for the main walls (living room, kitchen, laundry, etc) or would those wall colors be a decent choice or would those colors work well together Pure White works well with Alabaster. Neither one will make the other look dirty or dingy. I personally think Extra White is a prettier color of white but that's purely personal opinion. The color combo will be a lovely, flexible, neutral "envelope" for all the colors and contents you have planned....See Morelormer
