Wanna help redesign my mom's 1960's kitchen?
Comments (18)Nothing like pictures to make possibilities come alive! Armom, if they don't somehow :) get seduced into more change, just rehanging the pantry door to hinge on the same side but swing inward against the wall would be a quick little improvement that would pay off in convenience. For a one-cook kitchen, that's actually a very nice tidy space to work with. And, you know, that kitchen hall wall doesn't look like a bearing wall to me. The bedroom hall wall and probably the one by the DR do. How about if on one of Rhome's drawings the door into the kitchen were to shift to the bottom left corner, still facing the dining area, but with a little short open counter reaching across from the right for serving, socializing, and views? The entry would also be that much more convenient to...everything....See MoreARGHHH!!! Need Front Porch Roof Redesign Help
Comments (8)Great Question - two reasons really. #1 - Aesthetically there are no other curved lines on the entire front elevation and we were attempting to keep with that theme and remove any radius from a curved copper radius. #2 - Neither my wife nor I are big fans of the color of copper when it's new (for this application) or when it ages and creates a new patina (you can't really control the color nor the end product appearance) so we'd rather go with a spot-on color match to the windows/flashing/gutters, etc. because over time the color scheme of the front house stays just like it was when we first build it. Hope this helps shed some light on our reasoning. Thanks and like I mentioned previously, any additional commentary is invited. Regards, Andrew...See MoreKitchen/Dining Redesign Help
Comments (5)If you use a peninsula, and move the sink and DW there, could you adjust the new back entry to be more of a vestibule, to extend the cabinets on the window wall? Put the range there, m/l out of the traffic aisle, and move the fridge up, but still convenient to the living areas. You're going to have traffic through the kitchen, and the range should be in the more protected spot. That might not leave as much space for the laundry room you'd envisioned, but the kitchen layout would work better. A similar option: Forgot to mention--blue ovals are dish storage, relative to DW location....See MoreHelp on redesigning a 1960s kitchen layout!
Comments (6)Don't remodel before you move in! Wait 6 months at least to learn how the kitchen works in the house you're buying. Too many times people have a need to remodel immediately and then once they've lived in the house, wished they had done things totally differently. For example, you may decide after living in the house for 6 months that you hate that the kitchen has no natural light and that there might be a better spot for it. Also where does the doorway lead that you think right now you want to close off? Basically you're just repeating what is already there and trust me, there's a better layout. However live with it first so you understand what works and doesn't work. What you think you want to do, doesn't work. What is the age of the house? (going from the photo that shows ~18" to closer to 33") 33" is still not enough prep space....See Morerberesh73
