Help me choose exterior colors for my Tudor style house!
Comments (7)I'd call it Tudor, but its probably more accurately a storybook cottage. Whatever you want to call it, what a neat house. It's adorable! I'd prefer a light stucco with dark trim. It's just what looks right to me. The green you have now reminds me a little of the green used in the brick and timber frame farmhouses in northern Germany. My grandfather told me that they painted the wood green for good luck (or maybe it was to blend in with the moss) https://farm9.static.flickr.com/8689/17227343571_5c078f319f_b.jpg...See MoreHelp! Comments (7)The overall look of your house is Tudor, but it has a lot of other elements tacked on that make it a mix of different styles. Thank the builder gods that you don't have a humongous double garage facing the front. Do not paint stone or brick or you'll be stuck with maintenance forever. Do not add shutters, which will add yet another style element to this blend of different styles. (The house below does have a double pair, though, if you're bent on them.) I'm not sure you can "update" something that doesn't have a single style. The current color actually does pull the stone and brick together. If you want the Tudor style to stand out, them do what Housson suggests picking a shade of the roof color for the timbers. Your stone entrance could use a little more drama with much larger light sconces. It's a shame the landscaping doesn't enhance the house as much as it could. A curved walkway farther out so that you could have more dramatic planting beds would have set off the house more impressively. What you have is fine but more suited to a smaller house....See MoreHELP! Our house doesn’t know what style it is-Tudor? French Eclectic?
Comments (18)Pseudo-tudor. They were building pseudo-colonial and ran out of money after they put in the brick. Thus the roof-shape, which is going in the pseudo-colonial direction, but with a generous helping of pseudo-English manor. The porch, however, is all-American. The door should follow on that theme and look bright, fresh, and gregarious (translate: "pop"). If it were me, I'd go all out hodge-podge: not white-out the tudor, not white-out the brick. Just freshen up the paint, clean out the trees right next to the house (but keep the huge ones in foreground and background 'cos they're worth a fortune towards the value of your house). Spend your money on making sure the upstairs window frames aren't rotted. You might want to be sure those branches aren't overhanging the chimney (where there might be a risk of fire). Make the side patio more enticing. Maybe nifty up the cement, barbecue and cafe table, or, if out West, a hot tub. Or is that your parking area? Heck, build a carport! If the brown grass is an unofficial pathway, make it official, looking like it's supposed to be there. Stepping stones?...See MoreReese Witherspoon's new Tudor style home...have at it!
Comments (31)I like the house but the furnishings look photoshopped, which is common now in some real estate listings. I like the white. I was at DD’s house Thursday for the first time since she moved in. Her walls are SW Alabaster and her trim is SW Pure White. I really couldn’t tell the difference, but I didn’t tell her that! But they were light and airy, which is what she wanted. I considered - momentarily - painting my interior doors dark charcoal. Then I thought about dust and left them white, nearly the same color as dust. 😉 The roses are gorgeous. They almost look like climbers with no place to climb....See MoreUser
