Thanks Juliekcmo The electrician should be stopping by today to check out the un-needed line. However, the box is in the boiler room off of the garage and this bathroom is on the 2nd floor on the other side of the house. We don't have a stand up attic or a basement so adding a new line is always a problem. It actually may be easier to extend the existing line. But we will see what the electrician says. The ducted system on the 2nd floor is just AC. Heat is hot water / oil. The only source of heat in the bathroom will be a hydronic 2400 BTU Runtal towel warmer. There had been a small unit of baseboard but the contractor removed that thinking that the wall unit would be sufficient. All of this was not a problem until the contractor recommended removing the door that existed between the shower/toilet area and the rest of the bathroom. With that door closed, one could shower and dry in relative warmth. The bathroom and bedroom share the thermostat and we keep our bedroom at 60 degrees - hence the need to add some quick warm air to the bathroom when showering.

Appliances in their own spaces almost always require a dedicated circuit and these do not need GFCI. Regardless of the code guidelines you need to read the installation instructions on the appliances for their specific requirements. You Island requires GFCI receptacles on one of at least 2 small appliance circuits. Refrigerators don't require dedicated circuits by the code, though it is advisable.

JMVD, I like the way you think. This may be a voltage thing but in Australia/NZ (240/50) all dishwashers come with a plug, and the code expects an outlet in the nook for it. It does seem crazy since I assume the power hookup is in the back, so you have to pull the dishwasher out to get to it? If so, kind of contradicts the code itself as to how romex can generally be used, would it not?

Well, what if the washer receptacle is less than 6 ft from the sink? Is it still "exempt?" Maybe I should switch that from a duplex to a single receptacle. When we add the laundry sink then the current extra receptacle and any others we add will need to be GFI protected because they will be within just a few feet of the sink. Thanks for clearing up my question whether the washer needed a dedicated circuit. I thought I read that in this forum, but it was probably that the laundry room needed to be on a dedicated circuit.
