Dodged a weather bullet…..

We dodged some bad weather here last night, damaging winds and a tornado a few miles east of here. It has been a few years since tornado weather went through the area. My gardens got 1 1/2” of much needed rain. Eenie Weenie had first blooms today and showed off with a clump!

Banshee Whisper had first bloom two days ago.

Through Dark Waters started last week. This one was a bonus and wasnt sure if it would make the cut, looks similar to others here. It is staying, its a nice purple with 7” blooms and this plant has not been affected by the weird weather the past few years. Its showing some teeth on the petals.

Coyote Moon had 5 blooms today but I couldnt get them all in the frame.

When Pigs Fly had first flower today. This was a bonus from Selman. Frankly, I am disappointed by his plants here. Slow to establish, has not increased budding. This season the scapes are extremely short and it appears the blooms will be smaller. The sad part is its growing in a good spot, it may leave.

First bloom on a favorite here, Tall Dark Stranger, what a great plant!

First bloom on Sunday Gloves yesterday, its blooming earlier than the norm here.

Tyger River had first blooms last week, has been slow to establish here. This is probably the best color I have gotten on a photo, close to what I really see.

I'm glad you dodged that bullet but still got the rain you needed. After our big rain, our flowers are showing up how much they appreciated it. The color is better and the flowers are big.

Eenie Weenie is cute. I also like Through Dark Waters. It's a nice shade of purple. I also like Tall, Dark Stranger.

So glad you got the rain you needed. When Pigs Fly is a mid-late bloomer according to the registration. Very odd it would be blooming now for you. Do you think the short scapes and small buds are due to lack of rainfall? I can understand the frustration with non performers. I like Coyote Moon. Small, round, ruffled and a nice color.

No frost here either, was concerned about leaving my brugs out, but Thank God, it didn't frost. I still have tons of blooms. Now the wind storm the other night I could have lived without. It knocked down all my pots and made a real mess. I still have tons to plant before it gets to late. I have several daylilies in pots that will get planted in there pots in a holding bed until spring. Looks like we will have another good week as far as night temps go.

If your cherimoya is black, then it might be too ripe...or been left out too long. Here at the Asian supermarket is $4.99/lb. Mangosteen shells are usually hard but not hard as rock. If it is too hard then that also mean it been left out too long. The inside should be white and not mushy. If it is mushy, then it's bad. Yellow inside is not good either. Fresh mangosteen here are $9/lb. Canned rambutans are good...better than canned lychee. Canned Longan are also good. Canned fruits at the Asian ranged from $0.99-1.69. Hopefully you did get the green tamarind. Green are usually sour. The brown ones are sweeter. Just break the shell and eat the inside brown parts...do not eat the seeds. If you're living in PA, there are a few Asian supermarkets near in Philadelphia. Also, we have a Chinatown here that offer some of the tropical fruits. Good luck.

Best thing to do would be to go to Noble's website and read the pdf files on installation. Like most membranes, care needs to be taken when folding the membrane in the corners, at the membrane/drain intersection, how high the membrane goes up the walls, how the membrane drapes over the curb, and where to drive fasteners to attach the membrane to the framing and where to not use fasteners to attach the membrane to the framing. I'd wrote the book for you...but Nobel already has! And they have drawings/pictures! Best of luck with the project, Mongo

Seventy years ago, folks in cities had little one-horse-drawn covered wagons delivering bread, milk ... and ice. The operator knocked a chunk of ice off of the big block, carried it with a pair of tongs into the houses, and put it into a wooden box with wooden doors that looked much like a modern-day fridge, which was called an "ice box" in many people's kitchens. We folks on the farm had a pan of cool water in the basement to delay the perishing of perishables. Sixty years ago ... they started building fridges. Of the fridges built fifty years ago, many lasted for forty years ... did you hear that - 40 YEARS! The ones that they build now ... last for about ten years. I've told this yarn many times in the past few years (including here), and at about this point in the story, many people make a contribution, and with about half of them, it's the same three words ... ... "IF YOU'RE LUCKY!!"!! I think that we should write to the manufacturers and commiserate with them for having so much stupider engineers these days than they had in days gone by ... one would think that with the wonderful advances that have been made in various parts of the mechanical products system, they have been able by now to have developed some fridges that'd last for many more years. ole joyfuelled

I am so glad you got some rain and not any tornados. Eenie Weenie looks good. I like Through Dark Waters too/ Too bad SelmanSelman'ss aren't doing well there. I have Tyger River and it does well here, but I am not fond of it really. Now Clown Parade is his as is Margaret Lee Boch and Mountain Bluebird all of which do very well here.

Yay for the rain and not having storm damage! Through Dark Waters and Coyote Moon are my favorites of these today.

Having dodged many tornadoes this season, I feel your relief! Banshee Whisper is so pretty innthat photo. You enabled me to purchase Tall Dark Stranger this year and I have not been disappointed-so pretty, so tall, and so velvety!
