If you want the columns to recede, then paint them the color of the house. White will make them stand out even more.

I'd paint the body of the house in a light warm color, and then paint the columns and trim in one shade darker so they don't stand out so much but you still get a little contrast.

They did it w/this one. They just removed them actually. I think it makes a nice difference.

Leave on the back, but I'd remove them on the steps next to the columns

Then, think about doing a color palette like this one

before/after that shows a grayish/white stucco/columns, very dark fascia trim, and iron balluster

they keep the balluster on these. But unlike your front, the railing goes all the way across.

looks like a soft taupe color w/white trim and columns.

Since you have the terra cotta color tile roof, and the cobbles in the terra cotta and plum colors, I wouldn't do any grays or yellow-golds.

stick w/creams, blacks, dark bronze, and anything in the red-violet-orange side of the color spectrum.

(at least going off this front. The back is fine because you don't have these cobble pavers back there. if you had done the black/gry cobbles, you could do a gray. )

Just going off the cobble colors in your pic, I come up w/these colors. They all look great against the driveway.

I like the dark corbels, soffit and fascia of this one even though I don’t have the dark windows.

I like this one for my situation because they worked with their balustrades and columns… although the color is impregnated in the cast stone right? My front columns are stucco though, and I hadn’t even thought about painting them! Thanks for the link too. I will check it out!

Your house has so much detail, I think keeping the trim and the base close in color will make it look better. Keep it subtle. It is very attractive.

@tfitz1006 Thanks but don’t judge. The painters had to access the stucco and this picture was taken after we cut back and removed quite a bit. Plus there is a lot that can’t be seen in this photo of just the house (not the actual front garden) including a beloved 30’ Medjool palm. We started from scratch so all the trees/plants were chosen by myself and positioned by landscape architect. I’m happy with our choices other than the cypress which didn’t work out. I worked really hard on the landscaping and I have no desire to redo any of it. I think it’s beautiful. I don’t know why people feel free to criticize things off topic that are not cited as a problem?

@tfitz1006 There were flowers around the fountain and in large pots on either side of the front door just prior to painting. A purple passiflora vine normally grows across the garage - all of which will be replaced, don’t worry. There is plenty of color in the back yard which receives full sun. But the beds on either side of the entryway exist in shade 90% of the day. They are also limited in size due to necessary driveway access to the garage door. I’m happy with the mid tone green gardenia with white flowers and the contrast of dark green dwarf ilex and ligustrum in those beds.

If I took a picture from the street you would not see the house in full. What you don’t see in the front is Yesterday Today Tomorrow as well as a silver bismarck palm to camouflage the garage. Starburst Clerodendren on the side of the garage has fuzzy leaves that are dark green on top and purple underneath with pink blooms in the winter. Violet pentas surround the three other palm trees in the very front and the mail box. I grow orchids in the live oaks on either side of the driveway at the street. There is always something blooming but not all at once. What you also can’t see is a citrus garden on one side of the house and a butterfly/hummingbird garden on the other but I won’t bore you with everything in that.

Suffice it to say there is plenty of visual interest and curb appeal, in keeping with the Mediterranean style which is less about color and more about texture. It was an intentional decision to keep the front of the house a bit more formal and less busy in color than the back and sides. Actually I’m kind of known for my gardening and if anything I have a lot going on in the front. It is definitely not boring, especially compared to the low maintenance yards in our neighborhood here in Zone 10. :)
