Their remote transformers look very similar to other brands but the surface mount ones have the Tech connector. Did you ask Tech about a magnetic surface mount?

No matter where you look, Tech Lighting is expensive. You may want to look at manufacturers that do the same type of lighting for probably 1/2 the cost. Check out Nora Lighting and WAC Lighting. They may offer what you are looking for at a price much more reasonable.

Tech has a mini surface transformer for their monorail system. It is a 300 watt transformer and about the size of a pendant light canopy (Which is I think around 4 inches) Here is a picture of it from their website The link below has a video of their transformers. The mini surface transformer is shown towards the end of the video. Also if you look on the tech website they have photos of their monorail systems so you can see how they look. If the transformer that I posted above is not the correct one for your application there are several others shown on their website. There isn't enough space for recessed lighting? I would have expected there to be some general standards of depth of ceiling joists and a variety of recessed lights that would fit. What style are you looking for? There is a huge variety of track lighting out there, some of which are quite unobtrusive looking. I've also seen some track lighting mounted on a wall (kind of like picture lighting). Are you planning for cabinets on either side of the window? If not, you could do some wall sconces, though you'll still need overhead lighting as well.
