The pest and disease forum is where I received a reply. The pest is the False Oleander scale. From the web...one lady uses a yellow mouthwash to spray on the scale. She says it doesn't matter which mouthwash as long as it is yellow. Horticultural oil is suggested by the professionals. There is a fairly long list of plants that will host these scale and they are found in the warmer climates of the South...included are palms (how do you spray way up there!!) The scale doesn't attach to fruit, only leaves. sarapamela, are the "dove white" "white dove" colors getting mixed in your mind? I know they do mine! What brand are you talking about? I know SW AND BM have one and the other. But, what is "dove white" at BM is not like "white dove", or did I mix that up too? One brand is creamier, one is whiter. I have SW dove white (or is it white dove) on my trim, and it seems a lot whiter to me than BM other. Is that confusing enough? I'm very anxious to hear what color/brand you go with, I'm in the process of choosing as well. But I DID notice that in your first post, you called it BM's white dove, and then in the choice post, you called it dove white. So, is there a difference in choice? Or just words? LOL Crazy paint makers and their names!

I love my quartz - I went with it because I cook with lots of acidic foods... lemon, lime, tomato, wine etc. I am also good about using trivets anyway - and I also have a large 2 x 2 foot cutting board (1.5 inches thick) near the range. If you live with folks who won't pay attention to where the hot items are set down, go with granite. And not all granite needs re-sealing. Like Amanda says, though, I have never needed to use trivets under plates upon which I've dispensed hot food. This is instead a rule I use for hot cooktop or oven cookware, and I do use my George Forman and my crock pot on either a trivet or the aforementioned cutting board. My rice maker has feet, and so I do leave that item directly on the quartz countertop. Just checked - it is an off-white quartz there (I I keep the rice cooker out and in the same spot all the time), and life is fine.
