Comments (10)TNY78, sounds like fun! Can't wait to get mine! MGleason we have family over on that side of the state so I go out usually a few times a year. Don't have any trips planned currently though. The Norwich Castle sounds beautiful. I'm nervous about my Whiskey Mac surviving the winter here after reading these comments... Flaurabunda, the Rainbow's End sounds great! Mine just started getting some leaves so I'm hopeful! My other plant from Edmunds grew super fast so I was a little worried about RE but it's finally getting some green :)...See MoreHonorine de Brabant or Ferdinand Pichard? raspberry cream twirl?
Comments (9)They are beauties:) One is a bourbon ( Honorine de Brabant), the other is a Hybrid Perpetual (F.P.). I am not familiar with R.C. Twirl at all. Generally speaking, for my hot dry climate, more roses in the bourbon class have been recommend than the Hybrid Perpetuals. Even looking at my one gallon own roots, potted the same way and given the same treatment, the bourbons seem to be faring better. I contemplated Honorine de Brabant but the ones I have seen created a wide, tall shrub and I do not have the space for it. Ferdinand is "supposed to" grow more upright. The color description is different too. Honorine is described as more blush with a violet stripe, where as Ferdinand Pichard is crimson striped. Those are my generic inputs based upon HMF and seeing mature H.B. in CA. How a rose performs in one climate, garden, pot, versus another is key and I am sure that the gardeners on this forum will provide valuable information so you can make your choice. The above are my 2 cents:) Lynn This post was edited by desertgarden561 on Sun, Aug 25, 13 at 11:03...See MoreRaspberry Cream Twirl
Comments (37)Thank you all for your info on RCT. I bought a used arbor/trellis from a neighbor moving back to Michigan...and now am thinking of what kind of rose to climb it. I'm attracted to RCT because of CoriAnn's glowing reviews a couple of years ago and the part it about it being nearly thornless -- the arbor would go over the path from the side of the house to the back of the house, and is well used. So I don't want random thorns catching people! Those of you who've grown it -- would you mind updating your photos? And I'd love to see howyour hillside is looking, @cherylestes! Comments (22)Lavender Lass, your post touched me so much when I read it this afternoon that I got up and asked DH if he wanted to go for a "walk" on his mobility scooter. Don't know why I felt the urge to do that. It was a first, but we had a nice time together in our quiet neighborhood, feeling the sun and the breeze. I'm so glad your husband is finally improving, and how sweet of him to have you order the roses, a good sign of his hopefulness. I feel like we're comrades who have been through the same battle even though yours began a whole year before ours did. I can't imagine 10-1/2 months in hospital and nursing home - for him or for you. Again, I'm so happy for his improvement for both of you. I had so many nurses, aides, etc. say to us that I was an exceptional wife. Apparently, many don't even visit which is astonishing. Abandonment must really be an issue or so many wouldn't have mentioned it. So you and I and Ingrid's SIL are exceptional! But I think sometimes my intense desire for him to get better is almost more than he can stand. :) Ingrid, I'm sorry your brother has gone through so much. It's amazing how the human body can be so strong sometimes and when damaged, so fragile and weak. I'll be praying for Lavender Lass' husband and for your brother, Ingrid. Thank you again, Suzy, Jeannie, Pam, and Lou. And special thanks to Lavender and Ingrid. You are all such blessings to me.
