On my screen, your house looks distinctly red-brown - that reddish stain many people use for deck stain. With the red-brown body, I just can't envision blue "going". I'd do a khaki door - with brown trim and seasonal wreaths, it will really pull people in. Squint and pretend this isn't a formal Georgian entrance lol See how the khaki stands out against the dark brick?

jessica,,doors are much easier to change than the floors, so get a darker tone like the walnut. on the doors that face the wood floor, maybe you could have the flooring guy strip the doors and apply the same stain/finish to them? you may be able to do it yourself. if you give the doors a light sanding, 120-150 grit, you may be able to go over them w/a gel stain in the special walnut. (try varathane or General Finishes, no Minwax!) they look like Doug Fir. it will take away the orange tone and add a bit more depth to them. maybe try it on a door you plan on painting? like the inside of a room or something? if you can, remove it from the hinges, lay it on a sawhorse, do the sanding to remove the top coat, wipe w/a mineral spirits to clean, let dry a bit, then wipe on the gel stain, working it in and wiping off the excess. dries in a few hours. you should see a change. you are removing the carpet on the stairs? do we know what's underneath them? are the treads oak? are you putting in a runner? what color are you doing the walls? if doing a light color, you could redo the handrail in the same tone as the floor or the treads/risers. All depends where you're going w/that.

@cat_ky - completely agree - I've never liked the current color. So now that we need to paint, it's a good time to switch it up. Here are the HOA guidelines - "The decision whether to approve each application will be based on a judgment as to whether the proposed change would be noticeably inconsistent or visually incompatible with the originally established color scheme of the applicant's property and surrounding neighborhood. Factors considered in this review will include the following: Proposed colors must be visually indistinguishable from the original colors on one or more units of the same model located in the same neighborhood, and must correspond to the location of these original colors. For example, a proposed change of door color will be compared to the color of other doors in the same neighborhood. Proposed color changes must not reverse or alter the degree of contrast between the unit's original colors. For example, a light color against a dark background must not be replaced with a dark color against a light background. An area originally a single color may not be painted different colors, nor may adjacent, different colored areas be painted the same color. Proposed color changes must not alter the original degree of consistency between units in the same neighborhood. For example, where all shutters and doors on a row or section of town homes were originally painted identically, then none may be repainted a different color." There is not a prescribed list of colors other than it needs to similar to the surrounding homes -- which generally have various beige trim colors and a mix of red, blue, black, green and brown doors and shutters. Some do have black shutters and a reds doors.

It worked! Great pics. Thanks :) I think I'd want a lighter colour on the door to bring it forward a bit. Wonder how it would look if you swapped your garage and front door colours. I wouldn't go with black in this case. Black would work with your brick but I think it would make the door disappear.
