Hi Jake, Sorry to be late in answering :) I purchased these seedlings from ebay because they were cheap, 8.99 for a total of 8 seedlings + shipping. I'm new to DR too :) Luckily, GW & it's members' experience saved me from making fatal rookie mistakes. The seedlings are of no value really to an experienced DR enthusiast because their flower color is unknown & likely the most common color, pink :) I just loved the habit of these plants and would like nothing more than to surround myself with fatty-O pots & full flowering heads of pink or whatever color the ebay gods have graced me with, lol. The little pebbles are LECA, the brand is Hydroton. Annnd it was an experiment that didn't quite fail, as my DR did not die, but they certainly failed to thrive. 1. DR seedlings weren't able to remain stable (upright) in the hydroton 2. particles were too big, got too much air or too much water. It turned out to be difficult to keep the balance correct. 3. Al's gritty mix is the fast draining soil you keep hearing about(do a search, can't miss it. you'll find the recipe & explanation of how it works) Get a drink & put your feet up. It's a loooong but very informative read but I can't say enough how worth it this mix & explanation about soil & water movement was for me. The aquarium isn't an aquarium, just an old candy jar that I put the seedlings in. It worked really well to keep the humidity high. I've successfully started seeds in this sort of thing before too. Re: 'Can you tell me what you are doing' Well, I was fast on my way to rotting my DR's =) that's what I was doing, lol! Go with gritty mix or 511 (again, quick search, you'll find all you need to know)leave the LECA for the 'medicinal' pot growers =) I pulled the seedlings out of the LECA & repotted in gritty mix, they have since put on new leaves, indicating developing additional roots. My first mature DR (I currently have 3 more mature plants aside from the 8 seedlings & 5 rooted cuttings) I also pulled out of the hydroton & the cuttings too. They have all put on new growth thanks to the gritty mix, CRF & weekly feeding of Miracle Grow @ about half strength. Thanks everybody! I was so excited when I found it last night that I forgot to look at the tag. It is Ludgers Windsong x Mountain Magic. I didn't think it was opening for another day & just happened to look over & there it was. If the neighbors heard me, they probably thought I was crazy. It was dark by the time I got the pictures so that's all I got & a good thing because when I checked this am, it was chewed up (grrrr). The color is the same as it was last night except for the pink creeping up the bloom. The two tone look has stayed. It is 11 inces from top to bottom & almost 11 inches wide from twanger to twanger. I'll see how what's left of the flower does the next couple days. I have Ys on about 10% of my seedlings but I'm running out of time here. Only about 22 days till the frost date. I have a dream of naming special brugs after my children (big dream since there are 8 of them & 7 grandkids & two of my best friends). Most everyone I know just laughs & says I'll be lucky to get one. Well I have high hopes anyway. Linda

Here's a few pics of my sports, none of them are ultra-exciting, but it's what I have. Sadly, I never got around to starting any seeds this year, so no seedling pics (and to think I even bought streaky pod-parent seeds off ebay and never started them, shame on me.) Buff Gold Standard possibly sporting or just acting funny? (the hosta in the 6-7 o'clock position) Clifford's Comet with an eye sporting off the left side. Note the lack of a green margin. I chose not to separate the sporting eye from the mother plant, hopefully it comes back this year with more roots/eyes and I might separate it. I found a Francee that "could" be sporting. Note the leaf in the 9 o'clock position. Last year I found a pot of Risky Business, which contained normal RB, solid green RB, and streaked RB. First pic is before I separated them. And here is the streaked portion once I separated them (sadly, it never set any seed pods, I'm guessing it's not very fertile?)

Jean - I'm glad you liked the pictures! I know what you mean about the heat in the evenings. It doesn't feel tolerable until about 8 p.m. I've been doing a lot of lwatering between 7:30 and 9:30 in the morning. My problem is I have so many daylilies and pots it takes more than two hours to get everything watered. Be careful in this heat! Nancy and Mantis - I agree with you that Valentine Sweetheart is the star. It's the best bloom I've produced so far. Now I need to work on improved bud count and faster increase. Brad, Sherry, and Maryl - I'm very fond of Emperor Butterfly X Great White. The bloom seems small at just 5 inches, but I like the color, the roundness of the bloom, and the small ivory and silver edge. Its foliage, like Great White's, is outstanding - blue green and holds up well in this hot, humid weather. Because of the small bloom size, short scapes, and slow increase, I've considered it more of a bridge plant than a possible registration. I've been crossing it with taller, better budded daylilies with watermarks and edges. Knowing it reblooms makes me more determined to hybridize with it. Debra
