Are Your Night Blooming Jasmines Blooming Right Now?
Comments (11)NBJ reminds me of Bouganvilla - it thrives on neglect . Those cut back take longer to bloom than those left alone . My original plant was cut to almost nothing and is returning with beautiful growth - no flowers yet . Cuttings that are several years old and received no trimming have buds but no open blooms - yet . You may be just far enough north of us that it might take a week or two longer for your plant to set buds . NBJ seem to like plenty of sun and to be in the ground . Cuttings practically root before your eyes . My best performing NBJ is directly under a strong security light that runs all night long . I think that no matter how much or how little you do for this plant , it will survive and do just fine . I recommend planting it in the ground . Then start cuttings and put those in the ground in different places under different conditions . That experiment will tell you more about your own garden and plants than we ever could ....See MoreLet's see the Streakers.

Comments (19)I have several streaked hosta seedlings which overwintered in the ground from last year, but got nipped by a rabbit. One h.'Blue Lightning' seedling is promising and just now develops a scape which I want to use with pollen from large blues. Last winter I started in November to grow streaked hosta seedlings from seeds provided by Mr.Hosta of Land of the Giants. Here are those seedlings of h."Blue Lightning', 'Topo Gigio', 'Fickle Blue Genes' and 'Dorothy Benedict'. They are bigger than last year's already. I got last year a freebie 'Powder Keg' from LOTG but that hosta did not survive. I bought this year h.'Justice' at a Hosta Library auction. How do I like them? I do not know yet. The seedlings which will survive my culls will probably have some stabilized divisions, but it will be interesting. I am interested to create a streaked large blue one. Comments (44)Happy new year! You can easily create your own streakers from seeds, like I am doing right now. I could not hybridize this summer, but have open pollinated seedlings growing now in my basement from own h. 'Dorothy Benedict' and 'Topo Gigio' seedlings. My seedlings from Dan's, Trudy's and Jeff Miller's (LOTG) seeds sleep under a little snow outside. Tomorrow night it will be -8 dgrs. I am also growing seedlings from seeds I bought from Doug Beilstein, from a Hosta Seed Grower's auction (Trudy Van Wyk), and received from Jeff Miller (LOTG). I just did a cull, got rid of most greenies. In my basement in 4 trays I have now seedlings from 18 different streaked hybrids. That is a lot of fun. Most hosta seed growers have many many more than I have. The biggest fun was when I dropped one tray and then had to recover all spilled seeds and seedlings out of the mess of seed starting medium. Ha, but that went well! This Saturday, January 10, is another auction by the AHS starting, which also will have hosta seeds.
