toilet paper location

I recently moved into a condo and can’t figure out where to put the toilet paper in my super narrow bathroom. I think my only option is to get one that sits on the counter, but I can’t seem to find one. Any suggestions?? Okay

Ive been well satisfied in odd situations like that to use a toilet paper holder that stands on the floor.

Sonja thanks! Normally that would work, however when I use my floor stand it is either too close to use or it is completely in front of the sink or shower. It is irritating to move it every time.

Familiar question! My preference is to have it on a side wall next to the toilet, if there is a wall to put it on. I like it best in line with or just forward of my knee and about waist high when sitting. I find that makes it easiest to reach for the TP without learning or twisting (something I cannot do because of herniated disks). HOWEVER, we just redid the guest bathroom and I must have been asleep at the wheel when the architect specified the vanity size. The toilet is on a long wall between the vanity and the tub. There is about 21" between the vanity and the toilet and a little more to the tub. My options for the TP holder are (1) on the back wall behind the toilet, (2) on the side of the vanity and (3) opposite the toilet - about 3 foot span - on the wall where the towel bars are going. None of these are good options for someone who can't twist and reach and especially not for a child who, I think, might fall off the toilet just trying to reach! Had I been alert, I would have made the vanity longer than the 36" it is and mounted the holder on the side of the vanity, closer to the toilet. This is still not ideal because the vanity is only 21" deep and the toilet comes out beyond that so there would still be twisting to reach. I am reluctant to use a free-standing holder because the ones I have seen in peoples' homes look cheap and often seem to rust. Any ideas?

I would do what ever you need to do to insure an adiquate location for the TP. Whether you build a pony wall or have a free standing holder is up to you. But I vote for installation on a wall if at all able. The function of the pony wall can be improved by adding a pullout in the end, for storage. vineyard: We're on about the same timetable as you, depending on--well, everything. The garage was full before we started this venture, although I do reserve enough space for 1 car in it. I have recently resigned myself to being in moving-mode from now till whenever it is. My great room currently has a sink base cabinet DH made. Not boxed up, so I have wrapped Christmas presents stored inside. I can only access them through the cabinet doors, however. Because there's an ottoman, upside down on top of the cabinet. And for now, on top of the ottoman are wood pieces for the new coffee table DH is working on. The wood has to acclimate to indoor humidity levels or something. Are we having fun yet?

I just read an article about the TP shortage and one of the things that was said is that it's not so much people hoarding (although some are) as it is that people are now spending all of their time at home (per Annie's post) which means they are not using public bathrooms and public TP (at work, school, while out and about). This has caused home consumption of TP to increase substantially, which in turn, has increased the amount of TP they must purchase to keep up with the demand which is also contributing to those empty shelves we're all seeing. I've recently seen 20 pound bags of carrots and mega bags of grated cheese at my local store which I imagine is the restaurant supplies mentioned upthread. On a happy note, I went grocery shopping on Monday and stopped by the dollar store to see if they had any TP. To my surprise they did! It was a generic off brand that I've never heard of before, but it's quilted and two-ply. They didn't have limits on how much a person could buy, so I picked up two 12 packs and feel like I won the lottery! I was really glad I stopped by the dollar store, because when I was at the grocery store later, I took a stroll down the TP aisle and they are still completely out. They haven't had any TP for a month - I suppose they have, but apparently I haven't been there at the right time of the day or week.

I also have full cabinets that need to still be accessible. So it seems that no matter where I put the floor stand it is in the way…

Google "worktop toilet roll holder" and you will see some options for having the toilet roll sit on your vanity in a holder. One of these should suit your style and budget. I have the same problem in my bathroom and use one. No different than a standing paper towel holder in a kitchen. Hope this helps.

I have challenging bathrooms too. I’ve discovered that even though it might seem awkward, it is far more comfortable to reach backwards than sideways. I your case, there doesn’t seem to be alternatives anyway. I would place it on the right or left. Sit on the lid and reach backward with a piece of tape and mark your most comfortable position and mount accordingly. Position #2 if #1 doesn’t fit.

@kayozzy I didn’t even know you could recess into the cabinet! That’s a great idea!

The best solution - and easiest- might be to just leave a roll of toilet paper on top of the tank.

You can hang these on the side countertop wall.

You really can use a paper towel holder on the countertop.
