Help I want to update my living room but I do not know what to do.
Comments (13)What's in the armoire? I would place it opposite the fireplace to serve as a visual counter balance to it. Then put your TV on the former armoire wall, above a credenza 25% wider than the TV. Hang large art 5" above the mantel. Use your sofa table behind the sofa without the buffet lamps (do you have a formal dining room for them?) Remove the bergere chair as it doesn't fit the casual feeling of the other seating pieces. Do you have a foyer where it would be pretty? Put the large armchair in its place. Try a new, more casual feeling rug and drapes. Replace all the other art and photos with new art. Hang pieces centered 5' above the floor or 5" above furniture. Upgrade all the lamps and add a nice ceiling fixture in place of the fan. If you like the idea of a mirror above the mantle, you could install a pretty chandelier to be reflected in it....See MoreHelp! Advice Needed for Bland Living Room!
Comments (13)I think you can't go wrong if you refinish the floors in a light natural color that blends with the tan sections of the fireplace stone. The dark grey floor trend that has been so popular will soon pass and those dark floors will be dated. Remember it is WAAAY easier to repaint walls than redo a floor finish!! I love - totally love - the deep textured gray carpet in that inspiration photo you included. A hefty texture like that would be great with your sofa since it isn't the delicate type. To include metallics to mix up your textures more, I'd beware of wallpaper which I learned the hard way is really a pain to remove when you change your mind down the road. (Or someone else comes along and wants to change....). You can do all kinds of wall hanging sculptural things in a metallic finish ....or even endtables....as an example, see: https://www.allmodern.com/furniture/hd0/vanadium-stool-l295-k~fv22369.html?refid=GX87922700476-FV22369&device=c&ptid=170858064076&network=s&targetid=pla-170858064076&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIuJfSzrz_2wIVSgOGCh3FWwo2EAQYBiABEgIwO_D_BwE...See MoreOur living room feels too bland
Comments (8)Thanks to all who have commented thus far. We're definitely swapping out the floor lamp, I love the idea of replacing it with some thing that will add interest to the space. We'll be wall mounting the TV (it has only been a year since I bought the mount, lol) and painting the wall behind it, again focusing on adding color. There is a view beyond the chaise that we don't want to "block" with furniture so swapping the chairs with the chaise has some drawbacks. We're open to replacing the chairs too, but we'll probably start with the smaller ideas (lamp, paint, pillows) and see if more is necessary....See MoreWhat to do in living room/dining room
Comments (5)If you are not using the space for a dining room, set up two seating areas. One with sofa and tv and one with center cocktail table or ottoman with four chairs....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
