First Bloom of the Season

I have the first bloom of the season and it will be a while before I have any other different ones. You will have to pardon the weeds in some of the pictures, as I have not had time to really tend to the garden. Just prior to Thanksgiving, I had to have emergency cardiac surgery as my mitral valve separated from the heart wall, which created all sorts of problems. The surgery went well, but my breathing was a challenge and I wound up on ECMO. You can look it up if you want more details, but my blood had to leave my body to get oxygenated and warmed and then re-enter my body. Then I contracted COVID-19 as a door prize. So all of this and my recovery put me about 3 months behind on projects around the house and the garden is the last thing to get attention. Enough of my story.

Drum roll please........

Stella in Yella

I plant this were it can be deer food. Once I see that it has been nibbled on, I start my spraying of the garden with Repels All. This year, they took a different approach and nibbled on OUR FRIEND OLIN and left with one untouched scape. This means war!!!

Wow, you went thru a lot, I am glad you are doing well now. I like Stella in Yella better that Stella d'oro.

Deer are really sneaky!

Thank you all for kindly commenting! Sherry, no I don't have any issues with rabbits. I have rarely seen any around here since it is mostly wooded and no fields...but.....I have had a deer problem in years past. They don't bother my gardens anymore. Apparently deer have a good memory and don't ever want to be sprayed by the motion activated sprinklers again! I haven't used the devices the past couple years and have had zero issues. Maryl, I was born in south Georgia and I remember my Granny's camellia bushes and how I loved them. I have lived up here in NH since 1974 and I love it here but I still long for and wish I could grow camellias! So you are right about zone envy.

Still more.. looking weirdly shaped because these are last year spikes, they stay green so I didn't cut them out of curiosity And a nice surprise, this one has bloomed earlier this year, I have posted about it here a few months ago..

That is some ordeal! I can certainly see why things must be prioritized. Hope you are recovering now. I am with you on the war on deer after losing my entire backyard gardens to them a couple of weeks ago.

I hope you are back on your feet soon and don't push yourself too hard as you recover.

I'm so sorry to hear about your medical issues. And to catch Flu in the hospital had to be the topper. I hope you regain your strength soon.........I too like the dayliliy. So you are the fella with the yella daylily. Good for you..............Maryl

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am pretty much back to full strength. Stamina is still an issue, but it has greatly improved.
