    1. I find the wall very plain. I want something that draws the eyes to the fireplace.

    2. The furniture will be replaced completely. It going to be a family L- shaped sectional that will fit into the design.

I want the firewall to be highlighted as I plan on going basic no extras on other elements that makes a living room family friendly.

Painting/ fireplace wall first, (I can get more "hands" now b4 everyone goes back to busy life.)

    Appreciate your input.

Agreeable grey( I chose because it's like a neutral that goes with more decos that any other colours). OR do you have any other neutrals in shade of Grey that I can check out?

Agreeable Gray is ok but won’t bring POP or help your warm woods. You need stronger accent color.

Take a look at SW Cyberspace. It would work great with your shutters, floors, and a lighter gray sectional.

Here is rough mock up. I put gray sectional in (just to bring color and some shape) and added accent chair. I put a piece of art over mantel mainly to tie colors together. Art is very personal so you will need to shop for that. Just do square shape roughly size of firebox in width. I put arc lamp in to show how you can add light without end tables if doing a sectional.

I have used SW Cyberspace and it reads darker and more gray than this mock up shows. You need samples to get just the right color. I selected a gray sectional simply because it is easiest color to get ready made.

I can assure you Agreeable Gray will be much more “boring”. I have used it in many homes but it has gone out of style around here. Whites are big. So if you want light, remove a shutter and take to Sherwin Williams store and have them color match it. I don’t have time right now to mock up a white but I think you get the idea.

I ❤️ the shade of Grey you mocked with the shutter etc. You’re right. Lighter grey will not make the wal pop. (I’m heading to the paint store to try Cyberspace SW samples.
I can’t do white because I ve got kids under 4 who will definitely increase my cleaning time

Great. Cyberspace is great color. It will look spectacular. You will need two coats to cover and get full depth of color.

Went to the paint store. So
The entire first floor will be painted “ SW. Online Grey”. While the accent wall will be cyberspace”.

I like the shutters closed. You can open the louvers to get light in. That way you can keep them. I imagine they were quite an investment and it would be a shame to have them go to waste.

Yes Houssaon. I don’t want to consider changing the Shutters. It’s what I’ve got all through the house. . It’s been a rainy cloudy day. Thus the low light. The right pint colour with a cool tone will definitely change the “mood”.
Thanks for your comment. It’s been helpful

I am a bit concerned about the main color you chose 0nline. It needs to be sampled in your light. It is from the Blue/Green hue family and it might go too green in your light and fight with the Cyberspace. A cleaner gray would work better. Did you buy the paint or get a sample?

  • bumjo

Samples patch only. It looked a bit greenish. ** I thought the gloomy weather today was the reason.

What SW gray is clear cut grey and cool family? 2 shades of grey with the white trim is my working colours

My house is Online and it looks blue in sunlight. Sorry this is blurry but it should give you an idea what it looks like on a larger scale. I know yours will be interior walls, though.

It is a lot of blue than I expected. Will wait 2 more days before getting the paint.
This will not work with Cyberspace I presume.

Try SW Backstop gray 7025. Reads a true gray in my home. You need to see what undertone comes out in your natural light.

marylut - I cannot find SW Backstop Gray in any of my sources. Is it an older color? Are you sure of the brand? I simply don't have it in any of my sources. Sorry. I can't help with that color. Do you know its "LRV"?

  • calidesign

Unique Gray would still be super dark for an all over color. I think Spatial White could work with Cyberspace. LVR of 72. I think marylut was refering to SW Backdrop Gray - but that would be to replace the Cyberspace color because it's so dark.

  • marylut

Ooops, I apologize for the wild goose chase, Flo. My typing error. Backdrop LRV is 20, and yes for the focal wall, not entire house. Think it skews towards red.

With your flooring, I don't think I would go more brown. I have a color that would be pretty with the Cyberspace and it's called SW Gossamer Veil. It is a more pure gray and has an LRV of 62, so it does have some color. If you want lighter then we can check on what would be a lighter purer gray.

these combinations of Grey may be the way to go:

Evening Shadow SW7662(whole house ) and Accent wall Daphne SW9151. a bit contrasty to the warm flooring.

OK, here is my analysis: SW 7662 - Evening Shadow (whole house) LRV 61, Hue Angle Blue; SW 9151 Daphne (accent wall) LRV 33 Hue Angle Purple Blue. Both of these colors have a lot of blue in them so they will not look gray but more blue. The "accent" color isn't low enough on the LRV scale against the Evening Shadow. I would try Distance SW 6243 if you like the blue hue family. It has a LRV of 15 so it will make things pop. The Daphne isn't dark enough IMO. I also worry that when you get a whole house of the Evening Shadow, it is going to be really blue. Are you sure you want Evening Shadow for your main color??? You will be shocked at how blue this is going to look with many walls done in this color.

I can live with a bit of blue. ( not an overwhelming amount of blue)

All I want is a dominant grey Lighter grey with a dark accent. ( s.o.s)

Do you want a more "blue" look in the house? Or a more Gray look? If gray is the answer, then these colors will not make you happy.

  • bumjo

Grey is what I want as main colour. ( light grey), cool looking not blue. with a darker grey accent,

  • PRO
    Flo Mangan

Well, then we need to change those colors. Grays are quite difficult. But if you want a light gray, best thing to do is to go to Sherwin Williams store and have them take their base paint and add black tint to get you the gray tone you like. Then we can get you a good true dark gray accent color. All colors add tint to them so you have to be very cautious about grays. I know this isn't the answer you want because you are in a rush for some reason? But when you are investing in painting a whole house, it pays to take the time to make sure.

Why gray? It wont complimnt your wood floor color well. A blue with a gray undertone would work better. But I would keep it fresh by doing a warm white and take your mantel bright white.New tile for the fireplace. Drapery panels mounted to the ceiling to bring the ceiling height up. A rug to soften and compliment the floor color. New Art to tie it all together.

SW paint store have been so helpful!. finally,

Evening Shadow SW7662 LRV 61(whole house )/ most part of the house has white wood work and Accent wall Cyberspace a bit contrasty to the warm flooring.

Combining with the grey and gold furniture in the other rooms, I bet we have the pop we've been "hunting" for.

I will share pictures when done.

    Thanks all.

Are traditional shutters creating an ok angle, something different, an addition to traditional features? To me, wondering whatever art would look like a tad smaller.

Did you pick up how the one video showed how the orange toned floors turned a gray blue. That is a concern I have too for you. Quality of light is key to architectural coatings. So, where does that leave us. Well, it depends on your light. Darker colors tend to be easier to work with it’s the lighter shades that are more sensitive to quality of light. I think you are good with Cyberspace, but your other choice scares me because you plan to use it throughout your home. Obviously, the quality of light in each space will be different so even though you are using the same color, it will look different in each space. Your orange tone or whatever flooring you have will also impact how the color is perceived. Does the Sherwin Williams store have a Color Specialist you could hire to visit your home and help you make a good, intelligent decision? In your case, I think it would be well worth the small fee they charge. Usually, $250-400 US dollars depending on the complexities of the home.

It's going to be really dark in there with Evening Shadow all over, especially with shutters. And it doesn't work with your floor color or your dark brown sofa.

Yes FLo- I watched the video with the Orange toned floor.

A colour specialist recommended this video to me. (honestly I have an extra respect colour specialist. Grey is my favorite colour actually I chose it not because it's in vogue ).

Cyberspace for sure is on the highlight.

I chose Evening Shadow for the whole house( we have a lot white trims and celling) see pictures.

My partner chose Grey screen SW 7071.

** which will you match Cyberspace with it Flo? Grey screen OR Evening Shadow ?

    Hi Calidesgn:

The sofa will be grey for the family room and white for the great room.

Hi everdebd, the carpet is considered gone.

Here are the 3 colors from our Land of Color DNA/Colorography data.

  • PRO
    Flo Mangan

What this data shows is the two light choices are similar but Evening Shadow has almost double the Chroma (think graying) and it is in the Blue Hue family. Cyberspace has an LRV of 7 out of 100 with 100 being most reflective (think light and bright) so it is dark. I have used it as accent for a client with floors and a TV cabinet with same gold tones and it looked fabulous. I will see if I have a photo of it. Gray Screen has similar LRV TO Evening Shadow but it is in the Blue/Green Hue family and has only .26 Chroma. So less graying than Eve Shadow. So it’s close on the lighter colors. Now it boils down to your light. And your flooring. And where you want to go with rugs and furnishings. Hope this helps.
