I don't why you couldn't use base cabinets in combination with other cabinets/options for the upper section. These are the same cabinets we used in our kitchen that we used for dressers in our bedroom.You could do the same with IKEA bases in your closet (presuming you can pull out drawers past your closet doors?) and then add upper cabinets or switch to something like Elfa (Container Store) rods and shelves. We've used Elfa in our closet and been very happy. I can see it being used for just the upper half of a closet with cabs underneath.We kept Christmas decorations and wrapping paper up there on the high shelf.

From the website I would say they sound very much like imported Chinese crap. Maybe I am wrong but the huge discounts, in stock, etc, etc, makes it look to me like a tin man sales pitch.

IKEA all the way. Avoid shopping at Menards at all costs.

I have did my Pigeon cabinets about 12 years ago when the advice for the wall colour was Off, or Old white ( can't remember which) which is quite greeny and a bit dated looking now. All your photos are really pretty, and I would be grateful if I could pick brains about a fresher colour for the walls. It is a large farmhouse kitchen in the country . Many thanks.
