Appreciate your thoughts! The bathroom and shower are both small but will be waterproofed (and with underfloor heating). Is it much more difficult or risky to install a linear wall drain versus a linear floor drain? Seems like the tile work itself is easier for a wall drain than a floor drain (the wall drain seems like it would need fewer tile cuts for the floor). And without a doubt the in wall drain will cost more... Sorry for being a noob, but what is "CTI" (a design approach, a certification, a supplier,...)?

@ eaglepeak - I'm not associated with anyone at this time. My personal opinion supports the use of linear wall drains. If anyone has ever performed the proper cleaning of a floor linear grate they will be very aware of the nasty mess at the height adjustment feet. With a wall grate water never touches the grate. Installation is not difficult for a qualified Tile Setter. The clean finish look is one that I prefer. I shall let you compare the quality between manufacturers so that I may remain neutral.

Sorry, I mistook your comment here to mean that you were associated with Drains Unlimited. Maybe it is more likely you are just more familiar with that company as they appear to be small and located in the same state. No matter what, I appreciate you taking the time to read and post a comment.

I agree that aesthetically wall drains look better as the floor is less interrupted for large format and you make a good point about the cleaning. Since I don't have either type of drain yet I am seeking any comments. I would welcome any thoughts you might have on the design of either company's products or features/build that are worth considering, especially since you made your disclaimer.

Also, glad to hear that installation is not overly challenging for an experienced and qualified tile setter and it seems to be that apart from $$$'s, there is no real issue using a linear wall drain versus a linear floor drain.

I am not familiar with your products but I just installed a water stop wall drain from easy drain. https://www.easydrain.com/product/waterstop-wall-tile-grate/ . It looks great but I have to say it was a very stressful install. The drain itself is straightforward enough (though not easy), the issue I ran into is that you have to set the drain before you put the stone on the wall (did slab stone wall). By the time you are done using the thin-set to put the stone on the wall and trying to get right how much room to leave for it to the drain you can make yourself a bit nuts. I erred by leaving exrtra room and built the wall out to the drain. Had I left it to the contractor the wall drain would have been a couple of inches in front of the wall w/ tile behind the drain for an inch or so to the wall. Not worst thing in the world of course but kills the idea of the wall drain if it does not sit at the wall. MIght just be my experience, I would say worth doing but like anything where detail is key it can be hard to execute.

Too bad that you could not rely on your contractor to install your drain as intended (flush to the wall) to fully justify the cost. Definitely seems like it requires a high level of precision and skill/care to complete all the alignments it as is the case with all well done tiling. Hope that you are enjoying it very much and there have not been any significant unexpected issues (cleaning or in functionality).
