What kind of stone is this? Can it be painted or would you replace?

Just purchased this home. Needs landscaping (obvious) but what stone is this and how would you finish/replace it? Wife hates it.

I would replace the window shutters first. Too tall and too skinny.

Shutters are what jumped out at me. Sure, you can replace the stone; it is probably only a veneer.

Before I spend a bunch of time giving you step by step instructions on how to go about replacing it I am courous why you need to identify it before ripping it off. Are you concerned it might be dangerous or perhaps have resale value or what? .

If nothing else, get a removable panel while you are doing the linen closet - you can change the faucet later if you need to, but this sounds like the perfect time to create access to the plumbing. I recently put a new faucet with new controls (Hansgrohe) in my master bathroom, but my faucet controls were not working properly, and there was a great risk of scalding. If you replace the controls, make sure that you have separate control over the water temperature. Mine has one lever to control temperature and a separate control for volume, which I like very much. Before, I had one control, and the water started out cold, but as I turned the lever, I would get warmer and then hot water. However, I was never able to get a slow volume of hot water - only a huge blast - and this was not great for the shower. I’m glad you were able to get in touch with someone at RomaBio. It’s good to know that they’re responsive to customer inquiries! With that said, I think I’m changing my recommendation to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, which is so easy to work with and is available in smaller, “craft-sized” cans. (I think RomaBio is only sold in gallons.) In fact, in most cases, little to no prep. work—sanding OR priming!—is needed. She has instructional videos detailing numerous techniques, one of which just happens to be How To Paint On Marble With Chalk Paint, though I don’t think she’s doing a wash effect in that one.

We start our kitchen makeover next week, so just thought we’d get a quote for “fun“ while we were at it. We bought the house almost 3 years ago and have never been a big fan of the tile. Lately, we’ve been noticing places where the (grimy-no-matter-how-many-times-a-week-I-mop) grout is coming up as well as a few hairline cracks. :/ So figured now is as good a time as any to look at our options! Aha. That's helpful for those of us giving advice. If you are thinking of replacing the original wood flooring at some point, I'd probably take advantage of the kitchen reno to put down a relatively inexpensive vinyl plank flooring. Choose something that looks like stone/tile rather than wood. It's easier on the legs/feet in a kitchen than ceramic or porcelain tile, and the price is right for something that's going to get switched out down the road. Good luck with the kitchen reno!

House looks great! Nice job! Replacing the door will be the finishing touch. I like the first door with sidelites as suggested by BevFlaDez. I have the same fibreglass door minus the sidelites. Love it.

Ok so you weren't serious when you asked what stone it is. You can't paint it. Brick maybe but noone paint's stone so that leave's us with replacing it. Just in case you weren't serious about replacing it either,i'll give you instructions one step at a time rather than laying it out start to finish. First step is getting it off. A sledge hammer and crowbar can handle that. If you don't have those,buy what they call a Mutt Bar at Home Depot. One end acts similar to the thing DEA ram's a door with 2 secounds after they shout search warrant. The other end will pull off any stragglers left behind when hit. When you are finished with that,post pictures and we will go to step 2.

If you throw water on it and it absorbs into the stone you can use a mineral paint. Romabio is the easiest to get. They have it at Home Depot. Also their Instagram is packed with inspo. https://www.instagram.com/romabiopaints/

We order quarts online for $50 to test colors so I know a little goes a very long way. A quart would probably be enough to do the stone you have. But double-check that because I suck at guessing quantity of product for scope of work.

Wish you were nearby because I have a quart of Richmond White that needs a home.
