Parents' house had a doorless shower like this. It was fine.

In fact, our own shower door broke over a year ago, and we haven't replaced it, because what we really need to do is replace the whole shower, sigh. Funny enough, don't miss the door much. Just put a towel down on top of the shower mat that's already there. No biggy, honestly.

We have a doorless shower. Works fine. That shower in your picture is beautiful...window, shelving, lighting.

Water splashes off a person in the shower, and it can splash far depending on the water pressure and the angle of the shower head. Your glass wall might need to be longer, or you could add a matching door. I wouldn’t bother with a rain head shower….when we stay in hotels that have them I have to dodge the water from above. A good adjustable wall-mounted shower head is more practical, plus a rain head shower requires plumbing in the ceiling…another expense. And be sure you use small mosaic tile for the shower floor: more grout for secure footing.

We had one in hot Arizona. Not a fan, i always felt cold.

We are in the Houston area and the AC is on most of the year. It would be cold and drafty. We actually went in the opposite direction and completely closed up our shower with glass, like a steam shower with transom above door. Maybe it would be okay in an area where people don't use the AC very much.

In New England I give doorless a huge NAY. Drafts would be present in winter (actually fall and spring too). Plus my dog would wander in while I was showering then spread paw prints over the dry floor. Use a clear frameless door for the same effect.

Will never have a glass shower door again :)

I think an enclosed shower is more practical especially in guest baths and master bedrooms. It gives the ability for guests and/or multiple people to use the bathroom at one time. There is more space to store toiletries, and often sit down with bench.

We have one at our beach house (mild winters there) and I love it! I wouldn’t want one in a colder climate, however. You obviously need a big shower to pull this off. If you go this route, put the valve on the near side and the shower head on the far side so you don’t have to get wet when you turn on the shower.

I just finished a bathroom, replacing a leaking bathtub with a shower. I almost didn’t catch that it was going to be a doorless design—I insisted on a door—had to get a smaller profile toilet because it would be a tight fit, but with a hand shower I know that water would definitely accidentally get sprayed out, and sometimes we wash a dog in the shower, so need to be able to keep them in!

If you're not sure, have your contractor build the shower so that it can take a door later if you decide on one. So that would mean to determine what size panel and door you would have and then placing just the panel at first. Make sure the contractor makes the wall able to support an eventual door if you decide to put it in later. When the glass company measures for the panel, have them also measure for the door and talk with you about where hinges will go, door handle, etc, etc. So that if you decide on a door, you can just call them and pull the trigger.

We have a curbless with no door in Columbus, Ohio and honestly I love it. Exact same showerhead set up as you described too--you can't see them in the photo since they weren't installed yet when I took it, but there's a raindown in the middle, wand to the right, and high pressure on the wall to the left. I did also opt for radiant floor heat to help the floor dry faster, so I can't speak to the setup without that, but we've had 0 issues with mold and mildew since completion late summer 2018.

The most involved part of the project was the floor leveling--this was installed in a brick 1890s american foursquare, so we took the floor down to the joists which were thankfully SUPER beefy, so we were able to cut into them to slope the whole room gently away from the door, preventing us from needing a large transition step from the hallway to accommodate the slope. This would have been more of an issue with a larger bathroom tbh--in this instance the small size worked in our favor for once.

We don't have central AC right now (currently in progress), but there's a Large window AC (24k BTU) pointed at the bathroom door down the opposite end of the hallway. We've had no trouble with it being cold and drafty, even with two vent fans in the shower (can light fans are amazing! no ugly plastic rectangle on the ceiling you just don't see them at all, but we did need two of them for our bathroom since they're only 70 CFM).

Overall I have no complaints with our small bathroom reno! The room feels SO much larger than the ~8x8 it measures.

Edit: we did add a shower curtain for privacy since this is a 5 adult house with two full baths, but I've showered with and without the curtain and I can't say it makes a difference. Honestly I'm usually cracking the door right at the end of the shower because it's almost too steamy!

For the last 20 years two of our bathrooms have had doorless, frameless glass showers. One of them has a rain shower. There have been no problems whatsoever, no water splashing out, and not cold or draughty. We are in Florida. We just remodeled our master bath with another doorless glass shower, and rain shower, as we like them so much.

I had a doorless shower put in when I had my master bathroom renovated five years ago. Love the shower! I live in Missouri but I had under-floor heating added too, and it runs into the shower, so it is nice and warm in winter. There is a small amount of splashing outside the immediate shower area, but it dries up really fast (because of the heated floor).

Depends on the people using the shower. My “enthusiastic bather” splashed water out of every doorless shower in Europe! I don’t see the reason to only use one piece of glass instead of two. It just looks unfinished to me. And after mopping floors in hotels, I couldn’t have one.

Used a doorless shower at a hotel and loved it. Now I want one.

We had on in our NY house for the guest room. I used it once and then returned to my older, totally enclosed master shower. I couldn’t stand the draft. If you can do the Loren idea now, install a door later” idea, then try it. But having the contractors come back after the first part is done is also a headache.

If your bathroom is drafty that certainly might present a problem.

Have had doorless showers for the past 25 years + and would never want anything else. Love it!

We have a radiant floor and a door less shower in our New England bathroom. Same in our old house. We don’t have any issues with it.
