What are these holes and vents in my sliding glass door?

Just had a contractor come install 5 windows and a sliding glass door in my home yesterday. There are 4 holes around the sliding glass door. When I said it needs the plugs, he said he wasn't sure, that it's just vents and stays open. Also has a weird vent on the stationary panel. The door also did not come with a screen. Is this normal? He said it's an upgraded door and was really happy when he found it at his warehouse.

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoThere are 4 plug holes on the sliding door, two on top, 2 on bottom. On the fixed portion is two odd vents at the top.

Comments (12)To all reading this post: First of all, the quoted post should be attributed to Brickeyee. My sincerest apologies for my error. Here's a copy-and-paste version with the relevant section. Posted by brickeyee (My Page) on Thu, Jan 31, 08 at 19:46 .... The track should also NEVER be attached to a header in a weight bearing wall. A secondary header should be installed with about a 1/2 inch clearance below the structural header. If the header bows (and they all do to some extent) it can cause problems with the track. If the wall is NOT weight bearing the header will not be loaded and you CAN omit the second header. Decker, You asked what I meant by a secondary header. The real answer is I don't know; I'm just parrotting what I've read. But the term was used when describing 2x4(?)as something to which the pocket door track would be attached. BTW, this door installation is not a DIY project. I'm just trying to second-guess potential problems in construction. Comments (19)I had luminettes in my prior home. They were okay but one of them came unattached from the top thing and it was a pain to reattach. Like verticals, they are made of plastic so someone (2 DS's probably or dog) must have pulled them at one time or another. I know have sliding panels, unsure of maker but not JCP's. They are in the basement and have a bamboo look to them which we love. They are easy as they open like curtains and so you open in the morning and then close at night for privacy. Oh, and yes, they are going to be pricier than verticals. We have a 3 panel slider so this worked great for us because the door that opened was the center one. Comments (12)@Judy Graham You're correct - we have a builder that does both custom and production homes, and who sells himself as semi-custom for this development, but due to the current real estate frenzy they've basically said no to most changes. We tried the custom route last year - designed and bid a home - and discovered (as you noted) that our house was too expensive for us to build, so that's why we're going this route. Sacrifices must be made I suppose! I will consider putting nothing there, but I do like the idea of another sitting area... @Hannah Wolfson bookshelves are really intriguing! Comments (13)We are in the PNW and our architect recommended the Marvin or Western, which has a telescoping door system. We went with the Western door (3 panel) and saved money. We also did a flush threshold. The framers need to make sure to account for this so don’t let them forget it. Despite us telling our GC multiple times, the framers ended up having to go back and create the threshold lower so it would sit flush. Since you are in the PNW, you should account for rain on the threshold. Our door is under a covered porch so rain isn’t an issue....See More
