David Austin’s for humidity
Comments (22)I'm in Maryland, so my humidity is quite extreme, and I have to say planting DAs in my no-spray garden was a mistake. Not a single plant I could describe as healthy. By comparison, a few landscaping roses I have by the front door are spotless. But it's too late now -- I'm hooked and I can't imagine spring without them. When summer comes along, I shift my focus to summer perennials, and my veg and fruit garden. But if I ever move... no more Austins for me. Carding Mill today and back in May:...See MoreDavid Austin’s in pots
Comments (91)If you want a fluffy pink, have you considered Princess Alexandra of Kent? She's about 3.5 x 2.5 and, according to David Austin, has a "delicious fresh tea fragrance with aspects of lemon and blackcurrants." Princess Alexandra of Kent I wouldn't know since I do not grow her, but if I had any space left open, I would definitely plant her in my garden. Austin adds that she is highly fragrant and very healthy also and "ideal for pots and containers." Really BIG blooms, I'm told. Kate...See MoreFavorite David Austin blooms
Comments (197)This thread is so helpful for new rose growers like me. Everyone's photos are so beautiful, and it's great to see so many in one thread to compare colors and growth habits. @ingrid_vc so. CA zone 9 Ingrid, that last photo you posted of your Cottage Rose from afar has to be one of my favorite photos I've ever seen of a rose. It looks like a painting. The way you have all the different plant types around her, with the textures and colors is really something....and then the mist in the air only adds to the magic and makes your Cottage Rose really shine. Beautiful! Inspiring me to try some roses out in the open on my property with my trees and different plants. I love tall, slender evergreen cyprus type plants, and yours looks great contrasted with the rose and other plantings. @Ann9BNCalif Ann, curious how your Anne Boleyn rose is doing. I've been eyeing her but can't seem to find many pictures of her growth habit after some years in the ground. Does she do well for you? Thanks to everyone who posted, inspiring me to hopefully have some great roses over the next few years....See MoreWhich David Austin Rose, zone 6a?
Comments (23)Geez. . .so many! I'm overwhelmed now, lol. Looking at Palantine. ANyone have any suggestions to narrow it down a bit? haha! Wow. This will take me forever to choose. I definitely have one dead one to replace so I can stick a smallish shrub rose there (it's in amongst an Alexander Mackenzie and 2 Martin Frobishers, so . .they will get quite large.) And I have a small spot at the front that I was thinking maybe just a tea rose .. And another one I think is dead . .again probably small shrub there. Need to go out this morning and check a few others that I think are being taken over by rootstock. What on earth happened in my garden this year???!!! Geez....See Moreziyouzizai
