Perel I just went through this with our basement remodel - Did all the possible water abatement possible - starting w/gutters/pitch, grade of landscaping, removing large bushes around foundation, putting in a new patio, dry lock painted on walls (after a good cleaning) - Floor clean then application of floor paint. When I researched about possible flooring on our refinish side - I decided I did not want any flooring where I had to wonder what was lurking or growing under there.. So an inexpensive wall to wall carpet ($250 including pad) seemed to be the answer - I purchased it knowing it may get wet & if so, I'll just throw it out - I have the tack strips on all perimeters - so it would be fairly easy to take this out & put a new one down. On the utility side I purchased a nice vinyl rolled flooring and had the floor cleaned,painted as well as dash patched for pitted areas - this would be an easy application for you - found in hardware stores just apply to pitted, unlevel areas like a cement let dry I just think adhesives will make the application much more difficult + the VOC factor - as well as difficulty removing in the event of water - and need to remove old adhesive for applying a new tile etc... Hello. I am hoping to get some advice on the best practices for travertile tile installation on a concrete subfloor in a kitchen. I am in a 6th floor condo, so moisture is not a issue. One contractor recommended the use of an underlayment as well as a special caulk to match the grout for the transition between the travertine and the ajoining hardwood floor. Also, wondering about sealing or enhancing the tile...any suggestions?? Specifically wondering about when to seal the tile and whether it would matter to have appliances installed prior to sealing? The person installing the floor has suggested waiting 10 days to seal it to allow the grout to dry. I am to do this on my own. Any advice on the best brand of sealer to use?? How often should one seal the tile? Any other insights on the pros and cons of using travertine or types of travertine to avoid are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you are spending ALL THAT money for CoreTech, you might as well get the floors level! Another $2/sf to remove the tile should be do-able. Remove the tiles and you NEVER have to deal with them EVER AGAIN. And just to let you know, tiles will often sit 3/4" HIGHER than the subfloor. Now IMAGINE putting the 1/2" CoreTech over that tile. The drop is going to be MORE THAN 1 INCH!!!! Toe stubber extraordinaire! Remove the tile, carpet and laminate and do this the *right way. The way that makes sense. The way that will make life SOOOOO much easier in the future. Why sacrifice the look of your home (1380sf) because you do not want to remove 300sf of tile? It doesn't make sense. It would be in the category of "Cutting off your nose to spite your face". Yes, jacking out tile is dirty and dusty and not a lot of fun. But it happens every day all over the world. It is the right thing to do. If you leave the tile, the transitions through a few door ways would be SIGNIFICANT and ANNOYING. Or you can RAISE the floor heights in the other 1080sf (imagine $3/sf to raise up the 1000+ sf...) just so you do NOT have to remove 300sf of tile. Hmmmmm. That doesn't make any sense at all. Please take out the tile. You will be SOOOO much happier that you did. Trust me.
