Use of basketweave marble tile in main bathroom
Comments (3)We have basketweave on the shower floor only - the rest of the bath is bigger (12 inch square) marble tiles. So far (2 years) no problems. Our contractor preferred basketweave on the sloped shower floor and nobody in the many tile stores I visited advised against using it in the shower, either. Now I would like to know, too, why that was not a good choice....See MoreMarble Basketweave floor tile - honed vs polished?
Comments (9)We went with honed. I think technically they had it labeled as tumbled marble. I thought it looked a little less formal, if that makes sense to anyone other than me, than the polished. I don't find the basketweave portion to be slippery. We used a larger honed tile for the smaller room with the shower and toilet. I did slide a little once on that, but now I'm just careful to step on the mat and make sure the bottom of my feet are dry before stepping onto the floor. We sealed it and have not had any problems. I vacuum it with a hard floor attachment and have spot cleaned a few places. We've been using the bathroom for about six months and it's been very low maintenance....See MoreNeed help pairing bathroom mosaic floor tile
Comments (10)I am going with a 2" hex style black and white tile. I love the look of the "old" tiles like the hex and basket weave. I don't like subway, either, though and I felt that glass mosaic didn't look right with either. I'm going with Florida Tile's Calacatta http://www.floridatile.com/products/precious in the shower and a 4 x 4 white square around the tub. I would look at a Calacatta or Cararra porcelain subway (or larger brick style). You'll really need samples of both with your basket weave to make sure that the whites match. In one brand (can't remember which), the Calacatta was too warm, but their Cararra matched well. Florida Tile's Calacatta matched better than the Cararra. It comes in several sizes including an elongated hex and herringbone.... but that may be too busy for the basketweave....See MoreWall tile color for grey and white carrara basketweave bathroom floor
Comments (13)It is difficult to perceive true colors on a computer monitor - so you ill need to make the final choice. Here are some basket weave floors. There a several companies that make it and in some different color tone variations, so be sure that the wall tile and floor are working well together. You might want to get a sample of the SW Sea Salt and paint a large piece of foam board to set your samples on and look at it in different lighting. The Sea Salt can change colors in different lighting. I think you are thinking of the white ice up the walls, like a wainscot: I have mosaic tile floors, though not the basket weave as it wasn't out when I did mine, and white subway tile walls in two of my bathrooms and plan to do the same in my master someday. They remain more timeless looking than my master, done in early 2000's. I did a decorative trim in one bathroom, and a simple bullnose in the other. I wish I had not done the decorative trim piece, tough it is a bit more ornate than what you are considering....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
