My first thought is that given the width of the coffee table you may want to move the chair to the side of the table more to the left (of the photo) so that the left edge of the chair matches the outside edge of the table...I hope this makes sense...

It's an interesting table, but it's too tall and not the right style for your more traditional furniture. Since you already have different woods in the room, I'd look for something with a metal base and glass or simple stone top.

Your husband does beautiful work! But I agree that more of a glass & gold metal one like she posted might work better there.

The coffee table does not appear to be in sinc with the other items in your room.

@Shelly Ryder I disagree with the others - that table is gorgeous & though it’s not Craftsman in style it is a statement piece. The Morris chair is marvelous too - your husband is a talented & skilled craftsman. I suggest putting more space between the chair that matches couch & the couch - they look too cramped together & chair is too close to end table. I’d also move the Morris chair closer to the grouping. If it doesn’t need to be aimed at the TV, could it be moved to far corner & angled toward couch for a conversational grouping?

@Shelly Ryder another thought - angle the table in the space. The shape of top is unique & versatile so the table doesnt need to run the length of couch - just turn it a bit towards the TV.

I love the tabletop but think the base your husband created really fights the top and the items in the room. A more simple leg would have been a better choice IMO.

I also think the sofa and chair don't really fit the style of the room and a more tailored style would work better.

I would get a canvas dropcloth, wash it a couple of times to soften it - and I would do a DIY no sew dropcloth slipcover for the sofa. It would offer you the look of a nice linen on the sofa - and the color would work well in your space. Plus it is washable. Also very cost effective; you could easily get a couple of them to have on hand to change out.

ETA: You could also combine this idea with some additional plastic dropcloths, where and as needed.

Just to add, I think that is a very nice coffee table, and it can work in your space as it is. I would definitely keep the table. If you wanted to connect the design more, I think going with a bit different style on your table lamps could also tie things together. Or maybe just a different style on the lampshade.

I think as long as the cat sits close to it, you’re halfway there.

It doesn’t really fit, but if I wanted to work with it, I’d replace the rug with a jute rug, and load up on sofa pillows and throws to make it work. I’d also move the tall cherry secratary out of the visual range of that area. (Can you move it into the hallway where the mission-style bench now is?
