In-ground irrigation system - backflow preventer reduces pressure?

Hi All,

I have in in-ground irrigation system, and when I take a pressure reading from the pipe leading to the irrigation system in my basement (about 25 feet before the outside backflow preventer) and then another reading just after the backflow preventer outside, I get about a 10-12 psi lower reading after the backflow preventer. (I have a FEBCO 825YA).

We had freezing damage to the first valve and had that cracked one replaced.

I was wondering if maybe the freeze damaged more than just that first valve - like maybe damaged some other internal components that resulted in it reducing pressure?

Any help appreciated!
