Is what it is..........and it needs ONE shade, outside mount. Cellular shades have the more minimal head rail for inside OR outside mount.

What you are considering is pretty normal really. Outside mounting is not unusual at all.

Thanks so much everyone for the advice. The roller shades and blinds still meet the "minimum inside mount depth" although not fully recessed. Could inside mount still work?

Or use curtain panels full enough to close and forget shades. Or add curtain panels with another privacy treatment.

Neither blinds, cell shades or roller shades are particularly decorative, all alone....unless minimalist is your goal.
