If I registered a daylily this year, it would be called Noah’s Ark

I don’t think we have ever had a rain event like this-two weeks of rain-torrential rain, wind, thunderstorms, flooding, road closures, bridges collasping, trees falling due to saturated soil. I have not had a window of no rain to see my daylilies in two days (which is minor in comparison to above situations). So, I put on my rain jacket and boots today to walk about in the rain to see what I missed today. It was a lot. Most were total washouts but interesting to see what did hold up. This was around five o’clock in the afternoon after hard rains all day.

Interesting a red would hold up well but this one has great substance

FFO-held up pretty well-is a huge bloom

My bee pollen purple shows red tones

Butter Cream-what a monster bloom-kinda ragged from the rain but looking good

SC Francis Busby-has a tree branch hanging over it so protected a little

Linda Sierra-rains beat the scapes apart and you can see a scape of the one behind it lying on the ground-I saw a lot like that

Okay some are labeled, but what is the yellow? I see It Plays In Peoria. It is a nice big one, isn't it. What is the nice one with the fine white edge under it? Is the red one Kara Louise? I really like the one above It Plays.. etc...what is it. It is very pretty! what about the big dark, dark, dark one? I suspect it matches your mood with all tis rain, but I like your name choice. Noah's Ark....fitting.

A noid I saved from being dumped-I literally took it out of the throw away cart at a big box store and they gave it to me-has shown to be one of the most sunfast reds I have

Hey, I see you're in Vermont...I just got back from Olallie's in S. Newfane....have you ever been there? (I'm in NH). I thought roses were addictive (I have over 300) but this is far worse because I can squeeze SO MANY MORE daylilies in a garden bed! I have made 3 garden beds this year alone for daylilies and I'm not done...(Maryott's is having a huge sale). Your photos are very nice and I also grow Spacecoast Krinkles. I like that even though it is ruffly it opens up well. Some of the more ruffled ones seem to dislike our cooler morning temps. It is so much fun collecting daylilies so enjoy 'sneaking around'....I am always sneaking in more & more and my hubby has lost count so I just tell him it's one I already had that hadn't bloomed before...LOL. Good morning everyone! Aaahhhh Louie! Where can I begin? Since his arrival he has knocked over just about everything. Eaten 1 of our snakes (now, I can't confirm he killed it, but I did see him munching on it yesterday...can I say eeeewwwwww) And, he has single handedly mowed down almost all the flowers of my floating hearts. I did see him taking down my water celery last night. I want to be upset with him, but, I just can't. He's so little. Maybe a foot long. I told the kids he's like having another toddler running around. You just have to fix everything after he's finished with it. Bunzy (our paint turtle) and her two new paint turtle friends who showed up a few weeks ago, Bubba and Penelope (the kids named them, lol) all seem to be getting along just fine with each other. They were the only one's I was worried about. I'm going to try to get some pictures of him tonight. Last night I was feeding the fish and watching the turtles come up and eat the food. I was to zoned in on watching them that I started to get that weird feeling like I was being watched. I turn my head and there is LOUIE about 2 feet away from my feet munching away in the water. He is NOT afraid of people, lol! Sheri, LOL,I have no clue where he came from? We are close to the Seneca River. I say close, maybe a mile away, and our neighbors have ponds in their pastures. I don't know?? I can't imagine something so little traveling so far? Shirley, our "flying dinosaurs" have been making their nightly appearance as well. The herons aren't afraid of us either! The kids run at them yelling, they just walk to the other side of the pond. I put a couple of shepherds hooks down there with garden flags thinking moving things blowing around might scare them...nope. Hubby got me 2 beautiful heron statues last year for Christmas to scare them away. They stand right next to them, lol. The iris' did have a great spring! I did have some problems with rot afterward. I don't know if it was the crazy cold we had or what? I have a few die off completely. :( The ones that survived are multiplying like crazy. Your daylilies are so gorgeous! How large is Big Bird? I am picturing a very large flower head :) Col :) Yeah! It made it!! So happy!! I hope the Hawaiian Surf made it okay too? Shirley, I'm a Medical Technologist. Since most people have no idea of what that is, here is a short explaination. 4 years college, 1 year intership. I work in a hospital laboratory. We are the people who set up the blood for transfusions, microbiology (find out what bacteria you have), all the blood tests when you have your blood taken (hemoglobin, Blood sugars), urine tests, stool tests, sperm counts, Cerebral Spinal Fluid, any fluids from your body get tested by us. We also help draw blood, but please don't get us confused with the Phlebotomy team, they only draw blood for a living. I enjoy my job and the people probably because I work part-time. When the kids are done with school, then I will be full-time. Dawn, I grew Kong Mosiac Coleus from seed this year. It didn't do so well for me, probably since I had it in partial sun. Can't wait to hear more about the Lu'au. Well, today is our 22 wedding aniversary and hubby will be working very late. But we will celebrate this weekend. Also, I'm covered with poison Ivy. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how I got it. But then I put 2 and 2 together. Hubby and son were at the cottage for several days, so I let Ahi the cat sleep with me. HE is an outdoor/indoor cat. I bet he had it on his fur and the rest is history, or the rest is on me. The worst patch is on my neck where he loves to rub. I'm the biggest baby when it comes to Poison Ivy. I scratch and scratch. I'm trying really hard not to scratch my neck and face. (silent scream) Dawn, since you are into coleus, I thought you might get a kick out of a no-name coleus that did great for me. Pic is on the front porch. Grew this one from seed also. (Grow all of mine from seed). And since we need a Daylily picture, here is Knights in White Satin with tall red salvia and Rudbeckia gloriosa. This is KIWS last bloom. :o( And since I just have to post a picture of this Rudbeckia, I'm not sure what it is called. Took me all summer to fall in love with it. Now I will be sad to see it go. Hey ya! I hope everyone had a nice long weekend to enjoy. Beautiful weather here! Sherri, wish I could keep her this size. MaryB, a diagram for you :). Lots more stuff in there not pictured. Brugmansia 'Creamsickle' three blooms on a heat stressed plant and Coleus 'Lava Rose'- my favorite coleus this year. My business is slow as expected when starting out. I have a partial website (go figure?), my license, business cards. Made a bag with my logo on it that I carry around. I have about 6 websites going right now. Enough to pay the business bills. BTW, Gloria I have a bill for you coming your way today :). Love ya, Hottie! CindyO, you are about 350 miles for me, well duh, I guess you already know how far. I would love to come! I can drop my back seat in the Blazer and make lots of room, but I would have to leave the kids with you so I could haul the loot back home. Love that seedling of yours! What a lot of rain you've had recently. These daylilies really stood up to the wet weather. Red Heat and Blackberry Dragon are really impressive. I like your red NOID.

Florence Denny is a lovely soft shade. Such big blooms are especially susceptible to downpours.

Goodness Kate you are one brave person to go out. I like Butter Cream bloom. Big and bold even after being beaten up. Lady Dragon continues to strut its stuff. Nice group.

A LadyDragon daylily is going to have to come to live in my garden! All of your lovely posts of it show it so well, rain and if they survive at all in rain, what could be better?. I really like it and know where it will go. Like I needed that. Heartbeat of Heaven is another beauty. I can't wait to see what you put up when it clears....and it will! Of course, you have already cursed me with the necessity to find Spirit fox (and I have but haven't bought it yet but will and shortly since Bright Orange daylilies make my heart beat faster. A free sunfast red is never to be ignored.

Debra, I don’t even know how much rain has come down. I have a five gallon bucket sitting in the middle of my backyard that is overflowing!

Julia, no bravery involved as no lightning involved!! Only danger was in sinking up to my knees in mud!! To put this in perspective, my lawn is not low lying so when the ground is saturated this much, we have had a lot of rain. I wanted to look at the blooms as I have many new ones that I fear I may not see bloom. My new bed has an area of clay and I am concerned about some sitting in water now. I love big yellow blooms and Butter Cream makes my heart sing!’

Great to have some troopers like these. Blackberry Dragon is my favorite of the bunch. Great color.

With the weather it's always too much or too little. You have had too much and we haven't had enough. It's threatening rain every day, but then all we get is a drizzle. Our ground is pretty dry.

Still, you have some pretty blooms in that mess. I am impressed with Red Heat and Blackberry Dragon. Your bee pollen purple is lovely too. I also like SC Frances Busby. Your noid is nice too. That was certainly a lucky find.

You are a trooper kate! some pretty blooms here despite the weather. i sure wish you could share that rain, we have drought conditions here. i never had to hand water in May or June til this year

Thanks Brad. I love that one too! Nancy, such true words about the weather! No one is happy all the time. Almost ninety percent of my photos this year have raindrops on the bloom!! :) After this rain stops, I probably won’t see rain for two months! Sherry, I cannot imagine having to hand water!
