Installing LVP on unlevel floor

Hello,

I’m planning on installing Rigid Core LVP in my basement in the coming weeks. The flooring was previously carpeting and the concrete subfloor has a number of areas that are between 1/8 to 1/4 inch out of level. I was wondering if it’s be possible to fix these spots without pouring self leveling cement across the whole basement? Can I pour SLC in only certain spots? I’ve included photos of some the two types of issues that in dealing with. The first is a valley in the floor (about 1/4 inch out of level) and the second is a raised portion of the floor. I have about 4-5 instances of each of these issues across my 1000sqft basement. I would appreciate any guidance you all might have on rectifying these issues before I install. Thanks!

Oh Dear. The first pick is a fill able situation. The second situation is NOT. You have some sort of slab issue in the second photo. Those are BIG cracks. To get those dealt with you will need to get rid of the OLD SLC (that thin coat that someone tried to do to 'deal' with a bigger issue then they knew how to handle). Then you need to give the edges of that crack a good scrubbing...find out how crumbly it is. And IF it is stable (a concrete pro will know...a DIYer probably not) you can then fill it...wait for it to cure and then patch over it.

If you have 4-6 of these NASTY issues in your basement (photo #2) then you have more issues than just some 'high' and 'low' spots.

Please take some more photos of the room. Close ups make it hard to understand the real issues.

How old is the house/slab??

Thanks for taking the time to write out such a detailed response. The house is from 2001. I’ve included some more photos of the cracks with a measuring tape for reference.

We installed the anvil plus chatter oak. After a few months it shows everything it's hard to clean and you can see warping. They are saying it's because of water which doesn't make since because its "waterproof' make sure to install an extra underlayment or they won't follow through with a claim.

Measure, measure, measure and make it custom. You can shim if you are not 100% perfect. I'd measure from the floor onto the wall to the height you want. Then draw a line on the wall that's level. Use a spirit level. Then, I'd measure my legs from the line. I'd wash the walls and paint first. Coal dust sludge is pretty nasty stuff. Washing the walls well enough to paint will take some work.

Ouch. This is a pro job. There is something WEIRD going on with that slab!

When was the last time that slab was assessed? A soil report done?
