Comments (3)Hi Paula....must have overlooked your canna lilies in this picture. Those look like what they call Bee's Tongues down in south Louisiana. I had some given me growing at MoccasinLanding but lost those when I sold the place. I love the exotic greenery. I also have some aspidistra with nice strapping leaves, and they are striped white and green. As they mature, they turn whiter. Let's see if I can find a shot to include here for your benefit. This shot has two different types, the small one is my latest addition and it already shows variegation, the other one is quite slow to turn striped, it had a lot more sun and here is another which has both stripes and polka dots. I get my variegated aspidistra from Plant Delights Nursery I have some gifted to my by a dear friend, treasure them because she died 3 years ago now....See MoreThe Ladies' Paradise - Emile Zola
Comments (2)Lemonhead, I watched the first season of the TV production but did not watch the second. I have enjoyed Selfridge's and thought The Paradise should not have been shown during the same period as it is not nearly as good and just seems second rate. I know Selfridge's is criticized as being soap opera, but at least it's fun. The only Zola novel I've read is Germinal, and I really disliked it. The social problems and realism you mentioned were too much for me. I like to be told a story that is appealing in some way, and that one wasn't to me. It was just depressing and makes me not want to ever read anything by him again. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed yours, though!...See MoreDonna
