Uses for Microfiber Cloths
Comments (40)I don't think it really matters what brand you get as they are all virtually indestructible. I got my first batch 10-15 years ago at Lidl's (it's like the European dollar store) and I still have a lot of those yukky green microfiber cloths. Some have been lost or stolen, but the rest are still going strong. I tend to like the terry cloth type for floors and the smooth ones for dusting and polishing. You can use the smooth ones in the workshop, but earlier poster was right any sawdust or sanding particles will ruin the terry-type (the smooth ones work so well for between sanding tasks that I don't use the oiled cheesecloth anymore). Try a few versions out and see which type you like best, and for what tasks. If a certain color turns you off, avoid it, because these things will be with you probably for the rest of your life. It's like carpet, it doesn't really wear out--it uglies out. But who cares enough about cleaning cloths to replace a ugly cloth that still works fabulously....See MoreWashing microfiber cloths
Comments (22)Just to chime in with everyone else... I have different kinds of Microfiber cloths but gravitate to the yellow Costco ones the most since they are handy in the pantry. Over time and with certain kinds of dirt, they do get very stained but I keep using them as well (I know they're clean they just look dingy). I got them looking better by soaking in 3-4 scoops of Oxy cleaner for 24 hours then laundering them in hot water and another 2 scoops of Oxy. Some of the stains are still there but overall they look much better. The Costco towels do leave small fibers behind on glass and mirrors. I bought some glass-specific microfiber cloths at Big Lots last year (I think they were 3 for $3-$4?). I only use them for mirrors and glass and they don't shed at all. I wash those along with the Costco microfiber and have no problems with lint traveling over to the other cloths. The best thing about the Costco towels is that after 2 years of constant use, I just bought a new package of them. The older cloths can now get relegated to tackling very dirty tasks (like window sills outside). Hope that helps!...See MoreHow to remove microfiber clothes sweat odor?
Comments (5)In my experience this is a unique problem with certain microfiber clothes and sweaty conditions. I have been doing laundry effectively for nearly 40 years ( I actually took mine over as an older child because I wanted to do it my way) and I have never encountered anything like the smell on my husband's company provided work shirts. They were originally laundered by a service and they have the bar code on them that made sure they were returned to the correct employee. The company decided to stop paying for that and just gave the shirts to employees to wear if they chose. His are black and I heard that this cloth, which in my mind is plastic, can be bleached so I tried it with just one, then two and I have been bleaching all of them with clorox for several months. I even soak them in bleach hot water for a couple of hours before finishing the cycle. I thought it was working but I realize his closet still stinks. its insane. I have never encountered anything like it. I don't really know if they stank when they were laundered by the service because I was never around them, they stayed at work. The tag is worn but I can read 100% polyester....See MoreMicrofiber cloths - leaving dust behind on mirrors
Comments (5)peabody1, I have the same problem using the yellow Costco microfiber towels on mirrors. They leave tiny fiber debris that really shows! I bought some kitchen microfiber towels that are sold online @ Costco and are waffle weave texture. THEY work fantastic! I plan on buying a few packs of them to use for cleaning I like them so well! I'll continue to use the yellow ones for car washing or heavy cleaning etc... Hope this helps! BTW, Costco refunds shipping costs if you don't like something and have to take it back to the B&M store....See Moresushipup1
